I just bought 1000 tablets of this product (Thyroid-S) but have not

used it yet, as I have a bottle or two of Armour to use up first.

Maybe I should take some for a while to find out how good it is. The

pills are small and look just like US generic Armour. I tend to get

along well with many brands. I dissolve mine under my tongue.

I started out on synthroid & when i moved from california to arizona

the pharamcy switched me to Levothyroxine & boy did I feel like crap.

It took me about 2 months to get accustomed to the generic. Since

then my Dr. switched me to Levoxyl. And the switch to that had no

adverse affects. Im not sure why that was.

As for being on antidepressants, i was anti depressants and Synthroid

before, they were both persrcibed by my endo. I know that there are

sertain types of antidepressants should not me used whith on any

thyroid medication. I would ask your endo, nurse, or even your

pharmasist.

Recently, my pharmacist changed me from synthroid 125 to

Levothyroxine 125. Does anyone have any experience with

Levothyroxine? It is cheaper, but it seems to me that my thyroid is

too low now. I was having heart palpations, muscle weakness and

tiredness all over again. And I would be up most of the night. There

is a list of problems I was having, including chest pain. I thought I

was about to have a heart attack. I stop taking the pills for a

couple of days and felt better. I am also taking effexor 150mg,

which I am having a hard time getting off. I have recently read that

I shouldn't be taking antidepressants with my condition. Is this

Hi ,

Glad that you have joined us and each of us have different

symptoms. It could very well be that the difference that you are

finding between the synthroid-levothyroxine could be that they use

different fillers in the pill. You could have an allergy or a

reaction to them. I live in Canada and these names seem to be inter-

changeable from what I have been able to read and I was on eltroxin

levothyroxine when I was on .1mg but that was changed to synthroid

when I was increased to .125mg. The best thing you can do is go to

this home page and go through all the stuff that is there it will

give you lots of info. All the symptoms that you are having I have

had also at one time or another. Did your doc know that you were on

anti-depressant when you were prescribed the thyroid meds? Then he

should have taken that into account as I am on multiple meds for

asthma and other things as well as this hypo. We all rant and rave

at some point and that helps us to get our thinking right and there

are so many here that have been there, done that and are so willing

to share their thoughts, feelings ande learned knowledge. A good

place to be and we're happy that you are here.

Hi ,

Welcome to where we all learn from each others experiences.

First off, in order to help you, have you had a recent blood workup?

say within the last couple of months? If so, would you mind sharing

all to the results with us, along with the lab ranges?

If the last test was back in 2003 you need to be retested... and

then retested at least every six months to a year, this depending

upon what your diagnosis is.

In your testing you will need to have the Thyroid Antibodies (two

tests) done as well as Free T3 and Free T4, Ferratin, Folic Acid,

B12. Quite a few of us do not believe in the TSH test as the be all

and end all of Thryoid tests....It is one of the TOOLS, yes,

however, TSH(Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) is produced by the

Pituatary gland...if it is damaged then it too will over/under

produce its hormones.

Besides being called hypothyroid, Did the Doctor tell you what the

actual diagnosis was of your thyroid condition?

How long have you been taking antidepressents and for what medical

reason? (By the way, Depression is a symptom of many Thyroid

diseases.)

Yes, brain fogs can also be a symptom of under treated Thyroid

problems.

I am sure that others will ask questions as they get to read your

posting/email this weekend and hopefully we assist you in getting a

handle on your Thyroid difficulties.

Please realise that non of us are Doctors here. Some of us have more

medical training than others, however all of our postings/emails are

only In Our Humble Opinions.

Hi ,

Welcome! You are getting so much information!

Here's what I know about Levothyroxine...Like you I was on Synthroid

and suddenly switched by my pharmacy...they always do that if a

generic is available, unless the doc writes it on the prescription

not to do it..which you could certianly ask the doc to do. When I

was switched, I had my levels tested at regular intervals as if I

was newly diagnosed. I seem to need more levothyroxine than

Synthroid, so if I were to go back on Synthroid for some reason I

would know to pay attention, watch my levels and probably lower my

dose.

Hope you get the answers you need.

One other thing you might want to check is some insurance

plans REQUIRE the pharmacy to fill with a generic or else you risk paying

through the nose for the brand name. I know this is the case with my HMO,

regardless of whether my doc writes “Dispense as Written”. Which I

do not understand, but I guess anything for these HMO’s to save a buck?

Hi , I have a cousin with your same name...are you by chance from Michigan? I advocate for thyroid disease for the state of MI and I would like to be able to help you. I know that no one understands this disease unless they actually go through it....especially the regular medical docs. Let me know if I can help you.

Hi . I'm not sure what Levothyroxine is, but I started off as a

hypothyroid and then turned Hyperthyroid.

The symptoms you are experiencing, are the same as I went through.

Your thyroid may be too high. I would get that checked out asap.

I had chest pains and my muscles were weak. I would have heart

palpations and feel so tired from not being able to sleep. I went and

got it checked and found that I had turned Hyperthyroid. I would feel

so scared because I wouldn't know what was happening. Having your

thyroid too high is tough to go through and trust me, it took me

months to control my symptons until I could feel the full effect of

treatment.

Sometimes it can be controled as easy as lowering your medication.

Sometimes more needs to be done.

Let me know if I can help :)

If you chose the email option, then you should be receiving emails from the

group. I'm reading yours right now, so you will be able to read mine also.

If you're talking about going directly onto the site to read, then you will

have to choose the option at the top of the home page, " Sign In " , with your

Yahoo ID and password. Then the links will be open on that same page for

you to go into. You have a Yahoo ID and psswd, or you wouldn't be able to

join, right? There's a lot of good reading on the site. What is your full

diagnosis? Do you have Grave's Disease, and give us some history.

Is that a typo or am I having a nightmare or what?! Do you actually mean

you're losing 5 to 6 lbs a DAY, or that much in a week?! Either way sounds

more like Grave's Disease to me, from what you're saying. Has the doc run

the antibodies for that one???? You are in a very dangerous situation, and

I don't don't much doubt that they are going to put you on a med to block

your thyroid hormone or maybe even RAI to kill the thyroid. Have they tried

blocking with a med yet. PTU is used for this, as well as some other meds.

You are now an emergency. Topper should be in on this very quickly.

You kinda have me way freaked out about what you wrote here...that

I am in a emergency. I go from 5-6 pounds a day back and forth in a

week..I just keep loosing every day that I get on the scale. I think

didn't say that I have Grave's disease. I don't have a bigger neck

Topper is one of the site owners and was in thyroid storm (extremely hyper)

I think for over a yr, without any of the idiots catching it, until she went

to see one doctor, who finally diagnosed her. I'll let her tell her story,

but I think that the site is having technical difficulties today, so her

attention is probably turned that way right now. Hang in there, she will

reply, as she has been through this radically, so to speak. I wish you had

the antibody results and which antibodies, along with the ranges for them to

post here. Antithyroglobulin antibodies and Antithyroidperoxidase

(Antimicrosomal is the other name for this one, I think) antibodies are the

ones for Hashimoto's Disease, but Grave's generally carries the TSI antibody

(?) I believe it's called and can also carry the Antithyroglobulin AND the

other one too, so some authorities think that they may be sort of extensions

of different situations with the same disease. Still called by two

different names though. My Hashi's presented with hyper, probably for about

2 to 3 yrs or so. I could eat anything I wanted to and could never sit

still or think straight, high anxiety, weight loss from nothing, then in

about 1990, I began to slowly gain weight, and this is probably when I went

into a hypo state, with Hashi's, unbeknownest to me. I ran my own

antibodies testing a yr ago this March and was extremely high in both of

them. I'm sorry, didn't mean to scare you, but you need to know the

possibilities of this disease, especially with the high weight loss you're

having now. Do take your pulse and body tem, along with blood pressure

checks right now, frequently. If you're running a high pulse, then you need

something to block the thyroid hormones, IF they are running high, and I'm

sure they are, with that kind of weight loss from no dieting. Are you

craving a lot of carbs?

Jadee....

Need to ask some more questions here...

You are fluctuating with the weight? It's going up and down on you? Not to be indelicate here.. but the choice of words is a bit limited... are you a heavy person? Do you have disproportion heavy areas on your body? Specifically (most common) your legs or arms?

What I'm getting at is that folks with Lymphedema can have rapid fractionations in weight in a couple of days. When you have a huge weight drop does your urine output increase noticeably?

I'm fishing for possibilities here to see what your symptoms may be suggesting....

Has your appetite increase significantly?

Tell us more about what is going on... please....

Jadee.. rest assured.. as freaked out as this can make you sometimes YOU ARE NOT GOING CRAZY!!!!

Got that??? you aren't....

We'll do the best we can to help you figure out what is going on... Hashi's can put you in a hyper swing... and then swing you back around to hypo again... it's a matter of trying to control the severity of the swings.. it can be tricky... and understanding how it all works, and what the options are is the first step...

mary,

I am not able to eat any chocolate or drink any caffeine at all and my races all the time and I ahve to be careful about that. If I eat too much it will race more and if I eat before I go to bed it will race so I try to eat only when I am really hungry...but I really do seem like I am hungry all the time. My diet consists of little powdered donuts every morning and pizza or soup and I am still hungry later on after that. They diagnosed me with Hashimoto's about a year and a half ago and I was hyper then I went to slightly hyper as my tsh was still too low, but my T4 and t3 were normal and so they didn't need to treat me and I thought I could handle it all and then I became much worse as of the past couple of months and I am really struggling with trying to keep my life in order and not feel like I am dying or going crazy.

Thanks for all your info and help.

Hi everyone, My name is Aliisa and I am very new to the Intuitive

Eating approach. A few months ago I was diagnosed with diabetes. I

went through the diabetic education and they put me on a very

restrictive diet that I just couldnt stick to. I found myself

feeling like a failure for not being able to control it. But to be

honest, weighing and measuring all of your food and constantly

counting calories, fat and carbohydrates to meet the goals set by

someone else isnt how I want to live my life. A couple of weeks ago,

my husband put me in touch with a wonderful lady who is also a

diabetic educator that asked me alot of questions and then told me

about this approach. She said that this is what she teaches and has

had great success. I bought the book and while I havent made it all

the way through it yet, I love the concepts and have really worked

hard for the last 2 weeks on honoring my hunger, eating when Im a 3

or 4 and making peace with food. It is definately a freeing

experience. I just finished reading about feeling your fullness and

I will be incorporating that into the equation as well.

Im so thankful there is a support group that I can come and meet

people that are in the same boat as I am!!

A little about me....

Im 38, married with a 7yr old daughter. I used to teach college but

for the last 4 years I have been a stay at home mom and I love it!!

I enjoy taking care of my house, working in my garden, making my own

cleansers and things from scratch and crochetting. I was born and

raised a Texas girl but 3 years ago we moved to the midwest...very

very different from the south!!

Thanks again for the support group!

Aliisa,

We are the same age & I also live in the midwest -

Iowa. I grew up in the midwest though. My

grandmother & my 2 uncles all have diabetes, so that

is something that I try to watch. I wish you much

success.

Welcome Christie so glad to have you with us. Eva

I'm Christie, I'm here because I've been "dieting" in some form or another since I was 8 years old, and I've started reading Intuitive Eating. I'm seeing how even when I think I'm not dieting, I still have the diet mentality, and I see how difficult it makes everything, and how self-destructive it is.So I've got a lot to learn, and I thought this group would be a great place for some support!

Welcome, Christie. I know you will find the unconditional acceptance and support you need from this group. I've only been a member a couple of weeks, but the support given me has been invaluable. And everyone here has something to teach, I think, as well as to learn.
