Hi all,

I have enjoyed reading the posts. I have a dilemma, I have

successfully (I feel) have got over the " diet issues " . I have lost

and gained a couple of people of my life, lol. However, I will be

fine until around 2ish...then the snack attack starts. I can keep

busy at work but around 4:30-5 when I come home HELP! Does anyone

have any suggestions? Thanks.

I too get hungry around early afternoon. What I have come to realize

is that is because whatever I've eaten before then didn't have enough

'hold' power (protein/fats) to carry me thru to the time I did want to

eat [dinner]. Are you eating a substantial breakfast and hoping that

will hold you until dinner? Are you eating a 'lighter' lunch (salad,

fruit etc.)? Either way you will probably have digested and used

whatever you ate by early after noon. You may want to try something

(sandwich?) with protein/fat (meat/cheese) in it to see if that helps

you get thru that time period. IE can be fun as well as informative -

just let yourself experiment and see what works for you.

There is also the 'pre-programed' problem of associating a time with

an event. My afternoon 'snack' desire could be because I used to eat

something (usually fruit) when I came home from school. This would

tide me over until dinner (5PM). Barring that, could it be that you

really DO need something at that time? If so, bring a snack to eat

then - carbs will generally only last about an hour-ish for you, while

fat/protein can hold 3-4 hours (if you eat more than a nibble of these

that is). Again, experiment and find what works for you. Hey, you ARE

hungry, why not eat?

Best to you - Katcha

Hi Rick,

Welcome to the group!

As others have mentioned, it's important to know if you are eating lunch, and enough that you reached satisfaction. Even if you are, this may be the time that you would naturally get hungry, usually 3-4 hours after eating lunch. The other thing that happens in the afternoon for most people is their is a natural shift in the hormone cortisol. It naturally makes you more hungry as well as tired. The problem is that if you try to fight it and wait until dinner, you are going to be too hungry and this will cause you to overeat when you finally do get around to eating.

So as others have mentioned, make sure you're eating breakfast and a lunch that is satisfying, which would be enough food to carry you about 3-4 hours. I would have some kind of snack on hand for the afternoon. It doesn't have to be a full meal, but something that will curb your hunger. Something with protein would probably be helpful. This way you can get through the afternoon and get home without being starving. Then you can actually sit down and eat dinner without fear of eating it all before you even know what happened.

Does this make sense? This is a common problem. Please share with us what you try and what works or doesn't work. It will be helpful for many people in this group I suspect.
