Guest guest
I was just thinking about one of the posts encouraging press to stop reading fitness magazines, websites, etc. I did this about a year ago. I have not picked up any of them - including magazines like Glamour or Vogue. It was one of the best decisions I have made. It's usually recommended when you start IE to not read any of these because of the benefit to your body image and allowing yourself to be released from the diet mentality. I would like to add another benefit... Having time to enjoy other things in life. Since I haven't been reading a lot of these magazines (and honestly I've stepped back from reading the IE posts unless I feel the urge to do it), I've found myself enjoying other things in life. I'm listening to more music than I ever did. I am reading more books. I'm getting excited about reading about our world and finding out what else is going on outside. With the elections this year, I've actually started finding myself wanting to become more involved with politics and picking up magazines that help to provide a bit more information on what is happening in US and the world. So, while the reason I dropped the fitness and glamour magazines was to release myself from the diet claws that fill those magazines, the biggest benefit for me has been to engage me in the world around me and the issues that really matter to me. Thought I would share.
