Guest guest
Dear Friends, Is it the new estimates for HIV in India, or fall in new infections rate, United Nations has downgraded its India offices. Two most important organizations dealing with HIV are headless wonders for more than 6 months- UNAIDS and UNODC. And it looks it will take long time they will have Directors who can lead. Till about one year ago, UNAIDS had two community health specialists international officers. Now there is no one. The number of infections of more than 25 lakhs is still to large to take lightly. If United Nations office is present in a country, it should have experts who can advise. Otherwise it is better that office is closed. It is sad that accountability is falling in the system. If India proposal to GFATM did not pass, then we should at least be able to see what is the result and all comments. Government will conceal and United Nations and Foreigners are not interested. But the positive persons and NGOs should make the report public. Also we should be told how large international aid is being spent. Transparency and accountability will come only from our pressure. We should all press for it. Gyan Gyan Prakash e-mail: <gyanprakashplus@...>
