Guest guest
Well, today I went to the doctor and I was so afraid that I would be bombarded by the scale and little ads to lose weight and this and that. I don't know, the doctor just seems like a scary place when it comes to my weight. I got weighed, I didn't look at the scale but I snuck a peak at what she wrote down. I couldn't tell if it was a 7 or a 4 at the end and I told myself I'm better off not knowing. Besides, I was fully clothed and retaining water as it's that time of the month so that number isn't reliable even if it meant something. As I was waiting in the room for the doctor to come in, I stared at all of the ads for how to incorporate exercise into your routine and dared myself to read the " How to eat healthy " flier. I was actually pretty shocked. What is the first thing a diet will tell you to do? Stop eating the things you like. Start counting calories. One slip up and you're done for. This was SO the opposite! This was SO IE!! It had maybe 10 things for you to do to get on a healthier path for eating, whether it be to maintain or lose weight. They said " Stop counting calories, " " Eat slower and enjoy your meal so you can give your body time to recognize when you're full, " " Don't cut out the things you like, nothing is worse than forcing yourself to eat rice cakes when you can't stand them, " and " If you slip up, it's alright. One or two days is not going to do anything, just recognize that you overate and move on. " Nowhere did it say that if you eat chocolate cake you're going to gain 10 pounds, even if it was just a bite. There was nothing saying that if you overate one day, you needed to undereat the next and overcompensate with extra exercise. Everything was more about making food a pleasurable experience and listening more to your body than outside sources. I have to say, I was pretty happy to see that flier today!
