People's Panchayat is Addressing Stigma and Homophobia.

Dear Colleagues

 

Action Plus a coalition of 15 organizations in India is organizing a series of

People's Panchayats in 5 different cities in India .The first one is in

Bangalore and is anchored by INSA India in coordination with YRG-Care and 

CASAM. This is part of our advocacy towards enabling all people to live with

dignity. The theme of the People's Panchayat is Addressing Stigma and

Homophobia.

The details of the People's Panchayat in Bangalore is as follows:

Date: 28th January 2009

Time 10 am to 1.30pm {followed by lunch}

Venue : ADA Rangamandira, No 106, JC Road Bangalore 560002

We invite you to be part of the audience for this programme.

The programme in brief:

Five people from sexual minority groups will share their life testimonies

briefly highlighting the discrimination they faced within cultural, educational,

legal, religious, health and home settings.

The Bangalore Panch consists of religious leaders.

 

The Panch, will respond in terms of how they and their religion looks at stigma

and people who are sexual minorities and how they respond to their issues.  At

the end expert discussants  will tie up the discussions with view-points from

the medical  legal ethical stand point. The audience will then be given a space

to seek clarifications and come up with suggestions to enable a rights based

environment. The programme ends with hopefully stronger bridges between people,

meaningful relationships and an enabling environment fostered. And lunch.
