Dear Friends,

Greetings from Positive Women Network (PWN+)!

On the 6th August 08, PWN+ held a National Level Programme in Delhi `To Address

the Rights and Entitlement of Widows Living with HIV/AIDS in India’ through a

Review of Widow Pension and Widow Remarriage Schemes.

Following the Advocacy Event we would like to say Thanks to Mr. Pravir Krishan,

Joint secretary, NACO and Mr. B.S. Banerjee, Project Director of DSACS for

taking remarkable decision in favor of Widows who are living with HIV/AIDS.

We would like to present the action from NACO and DSACS following this Event

Mr. Krishan has officially made recommendations to all State AIDS Control

Societies that they instigate (with immediate effect) a Support Cell every

Tuesday (10.30am-12.30pm) for HIV infected/affected people to share grievances

and gain support for accessing the Widow Pension

A Widow Pension Cell has been established at DSACS offices to facilitate People

Living with HIV and AIDS Widows for submitting their Pension applications. Ms.

Nidhi Rawat Consultant (CSM) has been nominated as Nodal Officer for this

initiative, and her duties will be as follows:

Ensure the form for the Widow Pension is available from the Social Welfare

Department

Help PLHA widows to complete the Pension application form

Coordinate with other concerned Departments/Organisations

Help PLHAs widows to obtain necessary documents required

Follow up action with the Social Welfare Department

We are planning one State Level Programme in Delhi addressing issues on

Education for Children of PLHA, and so we will be in touch soon with more

details. Furthermore, if you have any insightful information or recommendations

for this planned Programme then please do contact us.

Thanks to National Women & Child Department, NACO and DSACS

Ms. Sunanda, PWN+
