Guest guest
From what I have been told yes there is. If you have the opportunity to have a live donor go with it. It is supposed to be better. Guest guest
Hi , I too have had a kidney transplant. What Brad says is true. A live donor also increases the chances of the transplant lasting longer, but nothing is absolute with transplants. Sometimes live donor transplant reject and the person is back on dialysis until they find another donor. I got my kidney from a cadaver, bles his or her and his or her family’s hearts, and it has lasted me for 10 years now. Guest guest
I'm not Brad, but it is true that a live donor is much better than a cadaver, but when you get one, there is no choice, you get what you can, if you need it. Guest guest
Hi Sugar, Where did you get your transplant? Do you feel the after care was as good as it could have been? My nephrologists thought UCSF (University of San Francisco) where I received my first transplant failed to give me appropriate care so my second transplant was at another hospital. I’m curious to know if those who have had transplants are completely happy with their care. Guest guest
Hi Becky, I recieved my kidney at Riverside, Community Hospital, with Dr. k Whalstorm (he was the doctor who performed the first bamboo heart transplant at Loma years ago, in the80's, I think) and yes, I loved my care!, I would go back to him, if I ever had any trouble, but as of yet, I have been blessed, and he follows up with me every year, as to my numbers, and I still see him once a year, though I live about 6 hours away, he is in Southern California. now, my Pancreas, is another story. He did not do my pancreas, due to insurances, blah, blah, you know how that goes... I recieved my pancreas at St. 's in Los. Angeles, and even though the doctor was great, Dr. Nariggai, the care was horrible!, but thank God, that I've had no major problems... and that was done 2 years after my kidney. I've really have not had anything major, except that I am allergic to Cypro, the only antibiotic that could help transplant patients the best, boohoo, so I have to be careful, and to let them know if and when I do get admitted, that I am allergic. Guest guest
Hi Sugar, I did not know that Sipro was a major antibiotic used with transplant patients. Is that for the kidneys? I know when I get a blister or other small infection the doctor’s put me on sipro, but I have never asked if there are other medications for me to use. Guest guest
Hi Becky yes, Cypro is an antibiotic that is the most favorite because it does not harm the kidney, like other antibiotics may(IV) my symptoms were, simply very fatigue, thirsty, sleepy, and just tired over all... went to the doctor, and he could not find my blood pressure, I was having clammy sweats, cold sweats, and I was always clammy(which isnot normal for me, since I don't have regular body temp.(ever since I lost my baby,(he turned 11 years on the 16th), well, let's just say he took my body heat, and i am always on the cold side. Guest guest
I also have not heard of this antibiotic being used. In my first transplant the only one I remember being used is Bactrum but this is due to my brain being overloaded so something has to go. The second transplant they again used Bactrum but I wass also taking Valcyte. They then stopped both of htese at the 1 year mark. new member Hello I am a new member of this list.
