Guest guest
You could try to wait a little to put on the blood. My talking Glukose meter says: Please apply blood into the strip. I do not know if there is writing that you could read. nne _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Carla Kay Etheredge Sent: Sunday, January 13, 2008 5:02 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Questions about checking blood sugars Hi everyone, I have a couple questions about checking sugars. Actually, its more about a good place to get blood from, and getting the blood successfully onto the test strip. The machine that they gave my husband from the doctors is an Accu Check Compact Plus. It looked easy in the doctor's office when they showed us, but for some reason, we're not too successful in getting a test because it says that the blood was applied too soon. I'm not sure what a good place is either, to get the blood from, because the strip is so small, it's automatically ejected from the machine just far enough for you to set your finger on there, but I guess I'm not doing something right, even when I test myself. It doesn't help because we both have big fingers to. I know this is for him, but I was curious about testing myself, so I've tried a couple times and haven't been successful. Any ideas on what to do differently? I don't know if this question can really bea answered by anyone, maybe I just have to keep experimenting, but then we run out of test strips, because it kicks out the test strip to throw it away when you turn off the machine, and the strip has already been used. Hmmm, hoping this all made some sort of sense? *smiles* Carla Kay Etheredge HYPERLINK " mailto:cketheredge%40inebraska.com " cketheredge@-inebraska.-com Myspace: HYPERLINK " http://www.myspace.com/prayingkitty " http://www.myspace.-com/prayingkitty MSN: HYPERLINK " mailto:cketheredge%40inebraska.com " cketheredge@-inebraska.-com Yahoo: prayingkitty

Guest guest
Make sure you finger is warm. Stick it on the side afer you squeeze it a minute. Squeeze again around the area you stuck and usually a drop of blood will show up. I don't know about your machine, but the stip from the Prodigy you just wipe the blood onto the end of the strip and wait 6 seconds for it to tell you your results. Guest guest
Carla Do you have a rehab center in your city that could send a community rehab teacher out to work with you on how to use this? Or maybe a nurse or even another experienced diabetic? It seems like you and your husband just need practice. Guest guest
hi becky, we do have a rehab center here. i may contact them, i didnt' think about that. Things have been so overwhelming the last few days. The way to dip the blood, was never really described like you guys have all mentioned to us, or if it was, I didn't understand because the nurse who showed us was very quick, and didn't take the extra time she could have with us. i'd been putting it on the flat area of the strip closest to the machine, not dipping it. Now, with reading some of the groups responses on how to get the blood on the strip, I think I might understand it now. I know it seems like a silly thing, but I guess it's not as its so important, as that's how the blood is tested. Thanks a bunch, Carla Kay Etheredge cketheredge@... Guest guest
No, it's not silly. Don't be afraid to ask questions here. And even those of us who have known we are diabetic for awhile still have questions and problems with testing our blood. There are days when I just can't seem to get blood on the strip very well and when I am not sure whether or not to trust the reading. So just be patient. Guest guest
I highly recommend reading some old news articles about companies like Maxy Aides. We really need to be supporting companies that support us and not screw us.
