Guest guest
Nick and Jane- I'm glad Nick is feeling better but I'm sorry the treatment was so tough on him. I hope his doctor can recommend a different combination or option once he's feeling stonger. Perhaps Xeloda alone? My Mom just started the same treatment as Nick (oxi/5fu) and this is the first time she has felt sick after taking chemo in 2 years. We're going to ask for more anti-nausea meds when we go for her next treatment. I hope it helps her. Hoping you feel better and stronger each day. God Bless you both. Guest guest
Kat- you might want to ask not just about more but different types of antinausea drugs. Sometimes what works for one does not for another. I have at various times tried- compazine-worked but made me extremely sleepy, lorazapam-worked best on intestinal cramping, Zofran-seems to work better for others than for me, Kytril only tried once because it caused constipation, Anzemat worked better for me than Zofran, and recently aprepitate (Emend). Emend is a new drug that works on the late nausea 2-3 days post treatment when I have the most queasiness from oxaliplatin and Xeloda. It pretty much has eliminated that side effect. Does cause me somehow to need to urinate more frequently although I don't think anyone else has reported this. Lately I have been adding on other days lorazapam for intestinal cramps. Hope things go better, Kris > > You can just be patient,he doesn't want to let go,thats normal. > You need to > > let him know that you love and support him but that you both nee > some > > space, and he has to know that also. Since I also have to loose weight, I got a talking scale, which is already broken. My blood pressure is also too high and I bought a talking blood pressure meter. I have been on the tread mill now for half an hour every day. That made me feel better. First, I got three new pills to take and some sheets to change my diet. That was hard during the holidays. I am originally from Switzerland and so swiss chocolate and marzipan are in my blood. I wonder if anyone has made Marzipan with Splenda. I found chocolate and cookies without sugar. I have problems with cutting out all the fruit I like or cut it to a minimum and all the carbs like a good plate of Spaghetti. OK, I have complained enough for one email. Anyone who can empathize please let me know. Also, does anyone have any creative suggestions for me since I am a baby in the Diabetes community. Of course, I have a supportive life partner who cooks for me and refuses to buy me the chocolate croissants. I am glad. He started eating the same as me since there is Diabetes in his family. Guest guest
Hi Anne, Welcome to the group! My name is Ruth and I have had type 1 diabetes for 34 years. We all have problems adjusting to food amounts and not being able to have certain foods. There are some good sugar free chocolates out there but you still have to limit these. Whole wheat carbs help regulate your blood sugars better because they have a better glycemic index but still it must be in the right amounts. What I do to keep from over eating on the pasta is to measure it before cooking. That way I only cook what I'm aloud to eatand I can't pig out on more. A serving is 2 oz. of uncooked pasta. Get a scale if you don't have one. Independant Living Aids has a good one for 99 dollars. Splenda has great recipes on their website so take a look. As well people on this list post great recipes! Anyways, welcome to the group! You will learn lots here and don't be afraid to ask questions. Someone is sure to help. Guest guest
Welcome nne I can certainly empathize with you, and I'm sure we all can. How lucky that you have a supportive partner who cooks for you and makes sure you eat healthy. I live with my brother who still eats cookies and other junk, and I often have trouble resisting since it is around. I was diagnosed with type 2 on New Year's Eve 2001 and spent the first week of 2002 in the hospital and have spent much more time in the hospital since then due to recurring foot ulcers and infections. Right now I am dealing with not only another ulcer but a painful condition called Charcot foot. I have been off work for more than six months which is depressing, and what do I want to do when I'm depressed? Eat, of course. So you are definitely not alone. Guest guest
Hi nne, welcome! I am relatively new, too, being diagnosed in September 2006. It is still a struggle and I think a process. You first are super aggressive and dedicated. Then you are just confused and frustrated. Then a lot angry and figure what's the point. Then I think reason takes over. That's when you realize this is life and you are going to live within it, but you are going to live and not be a slave to your disease or your fears about it. If you have a piece or two of chocolate now and again, so what! It will not kill you to have a high once in a while. It is the long-term uncontrolled high that counts. Remember, the blood sugar checks are guides, but A1C is the real measure. There are those who will tell you absolutely never go out of range; blah, blah, blah. Listen to those people and decide is the life they have to lead to be that strict really living or just existing. I think happiness and optimism will get you better control than always punishing yourself. I have a question and suggestion. First, your talking blood pressure monitor. What is it; have you checked its accuracy; and where might I find it? You say you do enjoy pasta. A possibility for occasional pasta is the Dream Field brand. It claims not to raise your blood sugar so much and a few people here have said they enjoyed it and had good success with it, but I think others have said it didn't matter. You should be able to find it if you check around. The best!

Guest guest
Hi , Meat isn't so much a problem as processed foods and excess carbohydrates are. If that is the first time you've heard that, you will soon begin to pick up on these things from the folks on this list. Processed foods and what I'm calling " excess carbohydrates " pretty much fall into the categories of snack foods and breads. Breads made with enriched white flour to be specific. These foods will spike your blood sugar and offer little nutritional value. And when you've over eaten, they get stored as fat to come back to get you later on. Isn't that nice! There are differing opinions about what makes for a " proper " diabetic diet, but in general, it is low in quick acting carbohydrates (i.e. bread, typical breakfast cereal, snack foods including potato chips, etc.), and is high in vegetables and even meat. Fish and lean poultry are the best because they are low in undesirable fat and are more easily digested. Red meat on the other hand is higher in bad fat and can take much longer to digest. Having said that, and since you said you like red meat, it's not that you can't eat it, but you need to be careful not to over eat and you need to be ready for an increase in your blood sugar much later on, perhaps even the next day. Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth. I'm sure others will chime in. Dave Hello I am a new member.

Guest guest
, Fruit is 100% carbohydrate. An occasional small fruit is really okay, but eating lots of eat and ddrinking fruit juices will keep that BG up.
