Hey All,

Ok, this was my 14 week appointment (well really my 13 wk 6 day appt) and it was super. My OB was again in a GREAT mood. We spent a looong time talking about what tests are available to me at this point (or in the near future). I will be going back in 2 weeks for the triple screen blood test. It's the AFP and 2 others. We talked about amnio and we didn't come to any firm decision until the triple screen test comes back. If it is abnormal then we'll go from there> The thing I am most concerned about in a neural tube defect. No special reason for me to be concerned other than it's something I read about early on and just have a terrible fear of something like that happening. He said that if by chance, the baby did have this, I would deliver at our children's hospital where we cold have a pediatric neurosurgeon who could take over the baby's care at birth. It was frightening to think about, but something that really worries me so I ended up feeling better just knowing what steps we would take if that was a problem.

THEN....We got to HEAR the heartbeat!! WOO-HOO :) It was the first time we had heard it (just saw it on u/s last time) and it was incredible, just amazing. I was o glad was there. He then felt on my tummy for the top of my uterus and then he showed me where it was, and then (much to her shock) he got to come over and feel to. He actually said "Come over and feel where your baby is living for 6 more months). WOW is all I can say. He said the heart rate was 150 beats a minute (is that fast?) and that so far so good. Now I just want to get these blood tests over with so I can get on with making this baby in peace.
