Guest guest
On 1 October 2008, the Supreme Court of India passed an order in the Voluntary Health Association of Punjab (VHAP) v Union of India and others case. A copy of the order can be found here: http://courtnic.nic.in/supremecourt/temp/wc%2053598p.txt. Additional Solicitor General, Mr Gopal Subramanium, on behalf of the Respondents submitted a report, together with an Office Memorandum (issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the National AIDS Control Organisation) and letters issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to other Ministries concerned with the implementation of the 19 point proposal put before the Supreme Court in August 2008. The Supreme Court ordered the State Governments to comply with the orders contained in the Office Memorandum issued by the Ministry and NACO, and ordered NACO to submit a status report within four months i.e. by 1 February 2009. Central Government has said it will look into and consider the proposed revisions to the 19 points which were the outcome of the National Meeting held in New Delhi on 30/31 August 2008, and were submitted on behalf of the Voluntary Health Association of Punjab, but has not yet done so.
