Guest guest
I was on RESCUE 911 and the dispatchers reenacted the calls from the voice tapes. In a message dated 7/30/2008 5:29:50 P.M. Guest guest
Which incident were you involved in? That was a great show, hosted by a then younger Shatner even though he was older than in his years as Captain Kirk. It is hard to believe that Rescue 911 first aired almost 20 years ago. Guest guest
A burglary suspect was locked inside a business. The officers responded to an alarm and were right on top of it. The guy called and said that the police were there, pointing guns at him from the outside and that he did not want to get shot. That was the first, but definitely not the last time I've made the national news (and not in a good way). In a message dated 8/2/2008 9:24:43 A.M. Guest guest
Every now and then somebody will bring in some goodies for all us but unfortunately unless we personally know the people involved are ok anything in the way of food is politely accepted then sent to the round file. More often we do get letters of thanks. I did get to socialize with one of my " saves " back in the early 1990's. One night I took a call from a resident saying his wife had trouble breathing and was seizing. After dispatching the two police officers on patrol, our first aid squad duty crew for BLS and calling the paramedic dispatch for an ALS the man called back saying she got worse, wanting to know where the ambulance was and for them to hurry, only 2 minutes after the initial call so I told him that the police should be there any second and that the squad and medics were on the way. He didn't understand why the police would respond but that is procedure here since they were equipped with oxygen and defibs, cpr and first aid certified. The wife survived but now is in a wheelchair as this was a stroke. The family wrote very nice letters to our chief, mayor & council, and our weekly newspaper thanking us all. Because of this, our local VFW post took notice and decided to include us in its annual citizen awards night dinner. My wife, son and myself sat at the table with that family. Incidentally, a year after the incident the then 18 year-old son joined my fire company and later our first aid squad. Dean, NJ 07405 Email: _L_Dean_07405@... RLDean@... I joke all the time--11 years on the job, still waiting for my picnic! :-)
