Guest guest
Thanks, ....:-) If you don't mind, would you let me know how she did? Bob ________________________________ From: 911console on behalf of Olmstead Sent: Thu 8/10/2006 9:29 AM To: 911Console ; 911Lifeline Subject: 911:: Last day of the Conference Yes, Bob-from-Tacoma, I do intend to attend your cohort's class! (That's coming up next at 1300 hrs.) I am SO pooped - wasn't able to participate in the Tuesday night City Walk excursion. But that's okay - I needed the rest. Many of the classes are quite good, but there are a few duds amongst them. It just reinforces why *I* attend these conferences: for the networking opportunities. Yah, nice to get educational credits or more larnin' in our chosen career fields.... since there aren't a whole lot of those opportunities elsewhere. Tonight is the Closing Gala and then tomorrow it's off to the airport 3 hours before my flight home. Gotta change planes in Chicago, too (Midway, not O'Hare, thank goodness!) I highly encourage anybody who has not been to an International APCO Conference to do as I've done over the years: save up your time and many, many dimes to attend these! That's if your department/agency won't spring for it for ya, anyway. Well, off to find some lunch. -- Happy to be here, proud to serve! It was quite nice to see a different tactic on Dispatcher Stress, for once: Bringing it home. That is, about helping one's family and friends understand the kinds of stress experienced by dispatchers, our reactions to it, and how it impacts our home life. (Those of us who have such a thing, of course.) She described the cycle of hypervigilance down to emotional inertia, introduced a new (to me) term of " burst stress " and gave a great presentation. It was NOT the usual, yaah, yah, tell us more (NOT!) about the stress we're under and yammer that we have to develop coping skills. I also introduced myself to her and dropped your name. <grin> You're apparently on her good list. (Tradelast opportunity; look up the word " tradelast, " Bob. I could use some reciprocity.) BOY am I whipped. Really not looking forward to 3.5 hr security check lines tomorrow morning, either. On the other hand, I'm not distressed by the concept of heightened airport security. I've already learned I can nap quite easily in a chair - even the uncomfortable ones in Conference rooms - so the airport should be no problem. -- Happy to be here, proud to serve! Guest guest
Bob, I was in the speaker ready room for the entire conference and was not able to attend any of the sessions but I did get to meet Tina prior to her class. She was a bit " stressed " , telling me it was her first time speaking. I assured her that she would do fine and afterwards she stopped by to drop off her extra handouts and she was beaming. Everyone I spoke to said she did a great job. I asked her afterwards how she felt and she said " great " . Make sure she signs up for next year's conference, the deadline is 10/16/06. Guest guest
Dora Wish I had known that is where you were " hiding " out!! I was in a number of classes right down from the Speaker Ready room, and would have popped in to say hi! None of the Volunteers in bright orange that I mentioned your name to knew you... I caught a glimpse of Clyde Walters on the last night, on the bus as we returned to the Quality Inn. Caught glimpses across the way of numbers of others, but only managed one on one time with Willet, Behr, Olmstead, Cline, Toni Wyman, Barry Furey, Dave and Perrin Larton and a passing remark or two to Gil Emery. (Don't think I forgot anyone, but it is possible it was burned from my memory with all the heat! LOL) Classes were for the most part very good. Supersessions I got to attend were tremendous! Since the classes I want to attend always seem to be scheduled at the same time, I am eagerly awaiting my CDs of ALL the conference sessions!! I'm already looking forward to Baltimore!!
