Guest guest
Hope everyone had wonderful holidays. I am looking for any suggestions on how your dispatchers relieve their stress during their shifts - this would be for a normal shift, not if anything major happened. Do you allow them to do anything special that helps them cope better during their shift? Thank you in advance. Guest guest
Hi, The best way to deal with the stress on the shift is to recognize stress and learn as much as you can about it. Specifically learn about ourselves and how we " tick " and more important how we get " ticked off " . The more you know - really know - the better you cope. During my years I made sure as that I always had something to focus on other than just the job. As much as the rules for where I worked allowed, and we were pretty liberal in our rules, I read books, mostly spiritual (not religious) books, and studied computing. After leaving Dispatching in 2000 I began Headsets911 and began to travel around and teach the Stress and the Dispatcher - Surviving the Console class around the country and saw all kinds of different ways Dispatchers coped. In one center they had a knitting group and made blankets and sweaters for people in need. Another had a " Cool down Room " that had sound-proofed walls with calming music, games, and TV and large overstuffed couches and chairs to plop into. Most of all, as I tell people in the classes, have a LIFE besides dispatching. That could be anything, such as a hobby, or school, but have something, it makes all the difference in the world. One quick tip, I always put a small pictured on the console of my family, just to remind me when the going got tough what I was working for and what was really important in life. It too made a huge difference for me. Visit Headsets911 for some other free helpful articles and don't forget to download our free ebook while your there! Good luck and Happy New Year! tp - In 911console , FiveHuskys@... wrote: > > > Hope everyone had wonderful holidays.
