Guest guest
When I first took over the route I have now that is in town, the police station was on my route. I would say hi to officers as I walked down the hall. Most of the time there might be a couple of officers in the break room , but I rarely said anything to any of them as there was usually story telling going on or discussion of some sort. I always tried to be as unintrusive as possible. I had the police station for 2 years until they had us pick up the machine because remodeling that part of the building . The break room was just off of where the old holding cells were . One cell had a desk in it and another had things like confiscated fireworks in it. Only once or twice did someone pop a head in and ask me to stay in the break room while they moved a prisoner through the hall. I had to sign in and had to go through a locked door to reach the breakroom and often had to go through a hall right off the front desk and close by work stations tucked into a hallway. A couple of years after I no longer had the police station I was at the high school doing their machine. I had gotten my list and was out in my truck. It takes about twenty minutes to fill up two large boxes of items to fill the almost empty machine. I had seen the principle in the hallway and a couple of janitors when I was making my list. I got my stuff together and put the boxes on my dolly and started toward the door. I noticed off to the left 3 or 4 police cars, 2 dogs and about 9 officers and the vice principle was meeting them at the side walk. They hit the side walk just in front of me before we got to the door. Several of the officers were teasing me about missing me around the station etc. The vice principle kept giving nervous glances back at me. We got to the doors to the school and the chief of police, who had also made a couple of comments , held the door for me and gestered me in ahead of him. Then the officers and dogs started on across the commons area toward the doors to the locker area. The vice principle was still twitching around and hung back till the others were half way across the commons. He finally turned to me and asked where I was going. I told him to the candy machine in the commons area to fill it. He hemmened and hawwed around and finally said. Well we are in lock down right now. We are not supposed to let anyone in the building in lock down. But I guess you can go ahead and fill the machines. He walked away and it dawned on me. He wanted to make me leave, but felt since the chief of police was the one that held the door for me and the whole group of officers were joking around with me , HE didn't feel he could do anything but let me come on in. lol Debbie and Ian McKinley (BMD since 93)no litters Kansas http://home.hit.net/~dimck/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/dimck23/ (200 carting photo)
