Dear Mandy...I am so sorry you had to go through this! Many folks are in denial about us--sometimes it isespecially family, which really hurts alot. If you haveany sort of MRI or reports of any kind that states yourMS, you may want to show your father. Or, better yet,ask him if he would like to (please) accompany you toyour next neuro appt so he could ask any questions hemight have. That might make him feel part of what youare going through. Bottom line--men, especially dadsand husbands (duh) want to "fix things"--am I wronghere men? It so frustrates them when they can. Hereis your father's 'little girl' going through something hecan't fix for you. How terribly frustrating that must befor him. Just for a moment, try and see what it is likefor him. He too, needs to see what it is like for you togo through this as well..Thank you for your post, andknow we are here to support and encourage you inwhatever way we can, Mandy. hugs, Kate in NY Rant about my effing fatherTo: BeingSick , MSersLife , MSfriends , msfriends2 , MSPeople_UK , undiagnosed , UNdiagnosedMS > Hiya everyone > > If you've got young eyes around then close this message now as > I'm not in a very good mood!> > We've just got back from seeing my parents and, as always, my > father was a real about me being > ill! Being the holidays - I had not wanted to go into it - the

son with the new baby on the way showed his true colors

about two weeks ago - basically he said I was a hypocondriac

- had been for years - get off my rear end - use my

education and get a job - it was much worse but you get the

idea - I can't forgive or forget - I have washed my hands of

him - I don't have a son - he is dead to me - I don't need

the negativity

Too right! That's pretty much what my father said to me too! The only reason I haven't got him out of my life is that I still want to see my mum!

The negative outweighed the positive and it was effecting my

health - I have more than enough crap from Hurricane Grace -

his mailing list still lists me as Ann - his way of

punishing me for divorcing his insane father in 1984 - I

never spelled Ann without an E and I have been Whitworth

(maiden name) for 2 years - I had helluva day with Grace and

then got his Christmas Card - all he did was scrawl Mom on

it - I did wait to 6 am the next day - after getting rudely

awaken at 4 am when the security alarm went off - we had the

police out and everything - they didn't find anything - I

wasn't as mad at 6am as I had been the day before - I

didn't blister paint - that is when he let fly

It has been coming for years - in a way it is a relief - no

more shite to put up with - just one more thing not to worry

me - with all of my heart family and all of you I am blessed

- Ellen - we have known each other almost 20 years - I

am family - I get my dog fix once a month - I go to the

store at least once a week - I harrass to my hearts

content - CJ is in Belleville - I get to share her 2 grand

daughters and Egan is my god dog, Patti is in Springfield we

go back - Lord knows how long - her daughter was 14 going on

35 for years - I did her wedding 8 years ago - Ina with her

3 geriatric horses in NC - they are a handful - Sherrie in

AR in her dome home and 30 cats - she moved from CA to NM

and then NM to AZ with all of them in a U Haul - I could go

on - Melitta in GA - we worked together for 2 and a half

years - I had just attuned her to reiki and her beloved Taz

came down with cancer - the day he passed I got a phone call

at 7 am - she and her husband were both in tears - could I

come over and pick up the money bags for work - 3 months

later Max came home from GA sound asleep in the car between

them - he became out nursing home mascot - I taught him to

make rounds of the patients - even after I left - Melitta

could always find him on a bed of a critically ill patient -

family and staff let him stay - many didn't have family - he

knew

when life gives you lemons - make lemonade - so my birth

certificate family sucks - my heart family and my internet

family sustain me and are there when times get tough

is a reading specialist here in town - she doesn't

tell me no when I dress up on the holidays and parade in and

out of her school - even if she is out of her classroom/

office and her colleagues drop their jaws (she hears about

her sister and her latest stunt) the kids love it - only the

female teachers gawk - this week a male teacher was at the

other computer when I waltzed in with reindeer horns and

garland betwen the horns and my hair - lightbulb ornamant

necklaces and red ribbon earrings with bells - even a dad I

saw on the way in loved it

I do it to piss off the lady teachers - I don't like their

energy - and with 's sense of humor she loves it -

gets her out of a rut

Meggie - and old friend and mentor of 20 + years surprized

me ( I was god mother to her 6 now 4 rescue " kids) she

brought me the most beautiful, exquisite angel I have ever

seen - this from an addicted angel addict - and a humongus

raisin bread muffin called tesori - Ellen had earrings

for me with garnet stones - seems I need to ground and

center (I wonder why.

Yes my heart family is my family - we built bridges as women

- regardless of race, age, or religion - we are women. We

are or have been wives or significant others. We have

children (two legged or four legged). Some have

grandchildren. We are so on the same page - not only do we

think alike - we are in something - just coming out of it -

or seeing coming attractions.

Isn't that what we do - this is family too. We can talk from

the heart - we have walked in the others shoes - just change

that names and the conditions or the size of the town and

the names and relationships - our good ship Lollipop keeps

going on and on and on.

Here endeth the lesson - sorry for the book - I will not

remember when it comes back from the group - so much for

fibro fog and MS crappy memory

well, my heart brother has put up with me for 42 years - his wife told him he would sleep on the couch if he didn't come down and see me when he went on a business trip to Oklahoma City in the early 90's - he hadn't been here since 1968 - he was army too.

yes we are still all close if not in town by phone and email -

well, my heart brother has put up with me for 42 years - his wife told him he would sleep on the couch if he didn't come down and see me when he went on a business trip to Oklahoma City in the early 90's - he hadn't been here since 1968 - he was army too.

yes we are still all close if not in town by phone and email -

Mandy, My personal favorite is when I am getting out of my car after parking in a handicapped space. I have the tag on my car. I no longer use the walker or cane, I am doing good....today. I have been stared at and even crappy commets made to someone else about me NOT having anything wrong with me. I just ignore them now, I have decided they are not worth my time or breath wasted on deaf ears. I have no family members that would ever say anything to me. They know we have to many neuro things in the family for that. I am sorry he is such an "a**" to you. We had a nephew Dx'ed with MS then 2 years later me, it doens't matter if you don't have neuro things run in your family it happens. I just hope it's not your dad that gets it next. He is not worth wasting your energy on. One day when he has had a broken-sprained-hand foot arm leg. Then say "I

can't understand why your using those crutches you look fine to me. Or I don't feel that you are in any pain." It really makes my blood boil, but still not worth wasting energy on. I will keep you in my prayers and ask for your dad to understand.

Hiya everyone

If you've got young eyes around then close this message now as I'm not in a very good mood!

We've just got back from seeing my parents and, as always, my father was a real <insert swear word of choice> about me being ill! He said that my illness was all in my head and that I wasn't really ill as no-one else in the family had and I'm too young (I'm 31) to get either MS or Muscular Dystrophy which, if I'd thought about it at the time I could have said "yeah, that's why I was referred to a Neurologist! " but dumbo me didn't think of that at the time!

I guess I've got to get used to people saying that though as when I'm sitting down you wouldn't have a clue that I was ill!

Has this happened to any of you? If it has, what did you say in reply?

Mandy, my brother, who is an alcoholic once told me that what I needed to do was

get more exercise. A walk would cure my MS. I told him & quot; Why didn & #39;t I

think of that? & quot; Then went on to say, & quot;Maybe you should think about

taking a walk yourself. i hear it & #39;s also a cure for alcoholism. & quot; People

can be such jerks. I have to talk about family, but they can be some of the

biggest ones. Much love to you, Mandy ...Val
