Guest guest
Hi everyone, I have seen a few references in the posts about journaling. I would like to start journaling about my intuitive eating journey and I am wondering if anyone has some suggestions about the kind of things they journal about? Are there any guidelines for this in the " Intuitive Eating " book or in one of the files on this website? I haven't been able to find this information but I haven't had a chance to read through everything yet. Thanks for any thoughts on this that anyone might care to share. B. Guest guest
i journal when i feel like i want to eat, but am not hungry, to try and help myself figure out what im using the food for, if not hunger. I also journal what i eat. not amounts, not calories, just the food item. For me this is HUGE. I used to obsess over every morsel of food i put in my body, id constantly think through out the day " well i ate this this and this, so i cant eat this " by me putting on paper what i eat, its out of my head, and i feel way less anxious. I rarely even look back over or re-read it. I dont use it as a means to track what im eating or to beat myself up, just to get it out of my head! I also note next to it where i was on the hunger scale before my meal, and where i was after.
Guest guest
, I am a big fan of journaling as a way to see what I am really thinking and how to work things out. There are no " rules " to journaling. It's simply writing what you think or feel. I try to journal daily even when I don't feel like it because I've found that when I don't feel like it and I write anyway usually something comes up in my writing that I find I have a lot to say about after all. I try to be very honest in my writing and to write it as if no one will ever read it. That's not actually true for me because my journal is on a public website but if I think about while writing I tend to edit my thoughts which defeats the purpose. I try not to " over-think " things when I journal but to just write what comes to mind, even if it seems unrelated. Usually if I write long enough I will see the connection I didn't know was there. Writing has always been very powerful for me and I prefer to journal on the comptuer because my fingers can keep up with my thoughts better than if I try to write it out. Some people don't find writing easy or helpful but they still want a way to journal. If that's the case I would suggest investing in a small recording devise. You can speak your thoughts instead of typing or writing and maybe that could help you process information. It's also a good thing to look back on to see how far you've come. There isn't a right or wrong way to journal. Good luck with this part of your journey.
Guest guest
Thanks, everyone, for sharing your thoughts about journaling. I guess I am so used to going on a diet and being told not only what to eat, but what to journal, that I was waiting for instructions! LOL. As some of you have suggested, as time goes on, I will probably know intuitively the kinds of subjects I want to journal about. I do have good keyboard skills so I may purchase some kind of journal software. I am too " chatty " for a handwritten journal, I think. Thanks again for your input!
