Did you ask a doctor about the risks? What about calling the Ask A Nurse

Hotline in your area? Just a suggestion. I think if he's had tetnus shots

before then this would be an extra precaution. It depends on how long ago he

had them.

,

If Sam is 5 yrs old, and you imply that he has all his shots, if that

includes a tetanus shot, a booster at this time should not be necessary.

Hi,

I'll try to make this short............

Today I went to the car wash to wash my van. I took my 5 year old son

and my 3 year old daughter with me. After washing the car I went the

vacauum. It was located right next to a pic nic table whith a grassy

area and a curb approx 2 feet from my car. Neither of these kids is

Autistic... (my 4 year old is) so I wasn't worried when I parked them on

the curb with a drink and a snack while I did the vacuuming. Well, when

I was almost done I looked up and ( my 5 year old) was holding a

Bic razor in his hand. He had evidentally found it on the ground. We

threw it away and I told him it was dangerous that he shouldn't be

playing with it. Then I didn't give it anymore thought. Apparently, he

got it out of the trash (without my knowledge) when I was loading up

the van and hid it in his pocket. When we got home he went to his room

and came out crying approx 2 minutes later. In his hand was the razor

and he had cut his finger. Needless to say, I was mortified. Did I

mention that the grassy area was also right up next to a beauty salon?

At any rate, I took Sam to the hospital and they were going to give him

a tetanus shot, but when I asked them if they had one without Mercury

they said no. Here's the problem.... Tomorrow I'm supposed to take Sam

to the Pediatritian for the DTaP which he should be getting before

Kindergarten. I believe that had a reaction to his shots and I'm

rather leary about giving any to Sam. At the same time, I don't want

him to get Tetanus. I guess I am wondering if any of you know what the

risk is for a child to get Tetanus if they've had all of the previous

shots and this is a booster?

PLEASE HELP ME NOW!!!!

cut my foot on a piece of broken glass that I missed sweeping up in

the kitchen. The glass was about 1 to 2 inches wide and it was

completely imbedded in my foot. I went to a local clinic where they

had to cut it out. At the time I couldn't remember my last tetanus

shot and so I received another. I was told by the doctor and the

nurse as well, that I after about 5 years I should receive another

shot because the tetanus vaccine was only good for that long. In

fact, the doctor said that after 4 years it should probably be done

in the case of cutting myself on a rusty object or something such as

a wire fence, etc.

I live in the USA. I don't know if that makes any difference in the

strength or type of tetanus vaccine, but it may be worth talking to

another doctor.

Take care,
