Guest guest
APSACS decides to cut links with Satyam 21 Jan 2009, 0535 hrs IST, Patan Afzal Babu, TNN HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh State Aids Control Society (APSACS) and the school education department have independently decided to stop funding and promoting the activities of Satyam Foundation and Byrraju Foundation. Both these are non-profit organizations floated by Satyam Computers founder B Ramalinga Raju who is now embroiled in the biggest corporate scam in Indian history. Sources in APSACS said the society had been funding various health- related activities of Satyam Foundation since 2005. " APSACS will not release funds for the HIV education programme taken up by the foundation under public-private partnership as part of the Adolescence Education Programme (AEP) targeting 350 engineering colleges in the state, " one official told TOI. So far, APSACS had paid about Rs 30 lakh to Satyam Foundation as part of its contribution towards organising AIDS awareness programmes in engineering colleges. This year, the amount will be around Rs 10 to Rs 12 lakh. However, after the scam surfaced, the agreement between APSACS and Satyam Foundation would be scrapped, officials said. The Foundation, established in 2000, has chapters in Hyderabad, Mumbai , Visakhapatnam, Pune, Bangaluru, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai and Gurgaon in India and in USA, UK, Australia, Malaysia and South Africa. It is working in the fields of environment, education, health care, AIDS, livelihood and street children issues by involving its associates, their family members and volunteers. Meanwhile, N Upender Reddy, state monitoring officer of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA), told TOI that school education department has decided to dissociate itself from the activities of Byrraju Foundation. SSA and Byrraju Foundation have been collaborating in imparting computer education programme to government teachers across the state. In this case, the state is not funding any of this foundation's activities. " After MOUs are signed with the district administrations, the foundation provides computer skills training to government school teachers by setting up training camps. The state pays the TA/DA of the teachers for going to the camp but no funds are given to the foundation directly by the state, " one official said. Currently, Byrraju Foundation is imparting computer training to school teachers in East and West Godavari districts. The programme in these two districts has been on since 2007 and the foundation had submitted proposals to take up the training in Visakhapatnam. " But this will not happen as the state has decided to delink itself from the activities of Byrraju Foundation, " one official said. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Hyderabad/APSACS_decides_to_cut_lin ks_with_Satyam/articleshow/4004212.cms
