Not an Honest Job:

THE National Health random survey is finding that a large number of

men and women in this highly literate state are not aware of some key

preventive measures for AIDS should raise concern in all quarters,

government and non-government. AIDS awareness is a subject on which

help is available from international, national and state agencies on

a significant scale. There are a number of non-government

organisations working in the field.

Funds for raising awareness have been allocated for making films,

exhibiting them, printing brochures and booklets and posters and

distributing them in towns and villages.

The state government and the AIDS Control Society need to look in

deeply and analyse the reasons why there is low awareness. Is it

because the materials like films and printed booklets and brochures

for which funds are allocated are not distributed? Or is it that they

are distributed perfunctorily ? that is, dumped somewhere? Whatever

it is, surely the agencies and organisations are not doing the

awareness-raising job honestly.

We feel it is a really great and great achievement of our advocay

effort locally to make our political leaders enough sensitive and

understand to contribute for a PLHIVs cause and respond HIV/AIDS in

Goa. We will continue to do so further.

It has been my personal experience in other national health Programmes that the

best solution to Health Education is Inter personal Communication. No other

Audio visual aid can match this.

Please advise the people who matter to pay more attention on this aspect. My

services are available if they so desire.
