Reb, having read all your posts, I have reached

two conclusions:

1) things are much the same in Sweden as here; or

2 the Swedish-origin population here had far more

influence than I had realized.

Maybe it is much the same. Of course, herring is part of the traditional Swedish Easter and Midsummer dinners as well. There is no such thing as a bad time for pickled herring... The mustard one is my favourite, or perhaps the matjes, or could be the onion pickled.
