Guest guest
Danny, I used to be really good other than the occasionally slip that I thought I just had to have and now I am blind. this is far to big a price to pay for the moment of slipping with that little treat. now I am very strict and a good blood sugar reading is the payoff. Hello Good Afternoon, I am new to this group. My name is nne and I live in Northern CA. I was diagnosed with Diabetes 2 in mid November just before the holidays. I, of course, got a talking glucose meter right away. Since I also have to loose weight, I got a talking scale, which is already broken. My blood pressure is also too high and I bought a talking blood pressure meter. I have been on the tread mill now for half an hour every day. That made me feel better. First, I got three new pills to take and some sheets to change my diet. That was hard during the holidays. I am originally from Switzerland and so swiss chocolate and marzipan are in my blood. I wonder if anyone has made Marzipan with Splenda. I found chocolate and cookies without sugar. I have problems with cutting out all the fruit I like or cut it to a minimum and all the carbs like a good plate of Spaghetti. OK, I have complained enough for one email. Anyone who can empathize please let me know. Also, does anyone have any creative suggestions for me since I am a baby in the Diabetes community. Of course, I have a supportive life partner who cooks for me and refuses to buy me the chocolate croissants. I am glad. He started eating the same as me since there is Diabetes in his family. His love also helps the chocolate grief. nne No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Guest guest
, I got my blood pressure monitor at the SF Lighthouse, but everyone else like independent living aids has it too. I do not know how accurate it is, but it seems to be fairly accurate. nne _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of S Sent: Monday, January 07, 2008 5:02 AM To: blind-diabetics Subject: RE: FW: Hello Hi nne, welcome! I am relatively new, too, being diagnosed in September 2006. It is still a struggle and I think a process. You first are super aggressive and dedicated. Then you are just confused and frustrated. Then a lot angry and figure what's the point. Then I think reason takes over. That's when you realize this is life and you are going to live within it, but you are going to live and not be a slave to your disease or your fears about it. If you have a piece or two of chocolate now and again, so what! It will not kill you to have a high once in a while. It is the long-term uncontrolled high that counts. Remember, the blood sugar checks are guides, but A1C is the real measure. There are those who will tell you absolutely never go out of range; blah, blah, blah. Listen to those people and decide is the life they have to lead to be that strict really living or just existing. I think happiness and optimism will get you better control than always punishing yourself. I have a question and suggestion. First, your talking blood pressure monitor. What is it; have you checked its accuracy; and where might I find it? You say you do enjoy pasta. A possibility for occasional pasta is the Dream Field brand. It claims not to raise your blood sugar so much and a few people here have said they enjoyed it and had good success with it, but I think others have said it didn't matter. You should be able to find it if you check around. The best! No virus found in this incoming message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Guest guest
Fruit is not bad for you unless you eat too much of it or eat it at the wrong time. Fruits are usually high inn natural sugar, which is better than refined sugar, but will still elevate your blood sugar level. Enjoy smaller portions of it, and make sure to allow for it by cutting back somewhere else, or better yet, eat a piece of fruit just before you will be exercising or going for a walk. Guest guest
Hello , Welcome to the list! My name is Ruth and I have been a type 1 diabetic for 34 years. You've brought up some very good questions. Dave mentioned flour, it is not so much whole wheat flour that you must be careful of, when you read the label you need to watch out for white flour and wheat flour. These are both usually white flour which packs on the quick carb rush to the blood. As for the red meats, if you are buying them go for extra lean cuts and extra lean ground. You are not especially fond of fish and chicken you say? Well, try to mix them equally with the red. One of the things that might work to encourage more eating of chicken and fish is to try different recipes and ways to prepare the fish and chicken. I don't especially like fish either, but I increased my consumption by trying different recipes with fish. I now eat more because I found more ways I like it prepared. You can also have some eggs as protein and beans like kidney and peanutbutter. Anyways, again, welcome to the list and I hope this helps.
