We started the GFCF diet for my son (3.5 yo) about 2 weeks ago. Since we are

new to this diet I know that we have had a few mistakes along the way so I

wouldn't say that he is 100% yet. This last weekend we went out of town and

although I tried to keep is diet GFCF I know he had some candy, licked the

frosting of some cake and had maple syrup that had caramel coloring in it. A

couple of days after returning from our weekend away he started having very

runny stools and even vomited once. He also has not been eating as much as

before. Can this be diet related or is he " sick " ? Before the diet his stools

were generally soft and any time he had " runny " stools it lasted for a day or

two but not five days (which we are up to as of today). I'm confused since it

is not as if he was 100% GFCF yet and then had a slip-up. Any advice would

be helpful. Thanks!

Hi ,

My 3.10yo son also has always had very soft stools with about once a

month what I consider " diahrrea " . Anyway, he was on the diet for 3 months

back in September of 1999 then just recently for about 2 weeks now. He has

had diahrrea again for the last 3 days. I really don't know. Just wanted to

let you know that you are not alone. We are contantly trying to figure out

what is going on in his body. It is heartbreaking to know he never feels

good and then have to pump him with tons of therapy to make him learn anyway.

I don't know how to make him feel good, hoping the diet, this time around

will make him feel better. My son never has vomited, so can't advise about

that, but I put my 13mo old son on GFCF also and he had a temporary (about 4

days) bout of diahrrea. But he has been MUCH happier since the diet change.
