Dear :

You have come to the right place. I am so sorry to hear about your

repeated losses. I have found that reading through the files and

following the stories of other members of this group has helped me

immensely - I have never been better informed and empowered with

information as a patient since I came here. Welcome. There are

women in this group who have suffered the loss along with their

spouses that you have, and I feel there is a strong support network

in place.

Congratulations for making it this far this pregnancy. I know that

the road is long for both of you, my husband and I have also been

trying for three years next month.

Good luck on the next ultrasound!

Kind regards,

Hi ,

Congratulations on the pregnancy!

I'm sorry that you have this worry right now. It is possible for an

HSG (the dye test your wife had) to miss a very thin septum, but the

good news about that is that a thin septum doesn't crowd the baby as

much as a thick one would.

And it is possible to see a " false " septum on HSG as well as on

ultrasound. Soemtimes just the way the uterus contracts makes it

look that way.

But if your wife should really have a septum, there is a lot to be

hopeful for, and a lot you can do. For one thing, you have gotten

farther than ever before, and that is a good sign. For another, your

doctor(s) can watch this pregnancy like hawks, making sure that she

gets bed rest if she needs it, and treatment for a shortening cervix

if she needs it. Bed rest alone is so helpful in cases of a weak

cervix, an irritable uterus, premature labor and the other things

that come with having a uterine anomaly at least some of the time.

Briefly about my own history: I have also lost a number of babies.

Three of them around 5-6 weeks and a fourth at 19 weeks because my

cervix opened up way too soon. Then I found out about the septum and

had it resected. Twice. It is greatly reduced in size (it had been

a very large one--unmistakable on HSG). Then I got pregnant again

but had a missed miscarriage, probably due to chromosomal factors (I

am oooold). Then I got pregnant again and so far am doing okay, with

only a few more weeks to go before birth. But the septum is still

there, probably more there than it should be after two resections.

Even so, things have gone well. Armed with foreknowledge, I have had

a purse stitch taken in my cervix (cerclage), and have rested a great

deal for the last two trimesters. I had some problems with preterm

contractions, and now the baby is in a transverse position (common

with uterine anomalies). Bt we are muddling through. It can be

done. The big advantage is KNOWING about potential problems in

advance.

Good luck. Please keep us posted.

Thank you for your reply and kindness. I have another question as we

are just starting to learn about this condition, but how common is

it? there seems to be quite a few people working through the

condition, yet until last week I had never heard of it before.

Again thank you and good luck in January.
