Guest guest
Hi Jody, How are you doing with your eyes and the PTU dose? Up until 3 days ago, I was also on 75 mg a day. I now feel this is just a bit too much, and am trying to figure the next step down. My pills are 50 mg each. So I have been taking 1/2 a pill, three times a day. Is that what you are doing? Right now I am experimenting with 1/4 pills, but do not have a plan set in stone yet. I also had pretty bad TED or GO, I'm not sure of the difference. I am very fortunate, in that I did go the long dose of prednisone, but it came back when drugs discontinued, as I no longer could tolerate the side effects. I declined the radiation treatments, much to the dismay of my doctor. Then later this news flash about it not working. Hummm. My eyes have gotten better all on their own. Though I am sure if I had done the radiation, I would have been counted as a success. I do find it a bit disconcerting that my doctor seems surprised at my improvement. He keeps mumbling how mother nature does a much better job, he just had several people do radiation. ??? So I now am sure it was the PTU...antibodies thing. My eyes did get worse for some time. Then stayed the same. Then after about one year, or slightly over, of being closer to a more consistent, closer to normal lab range, they look almost right. They have gone back into my head. No longer red and gritty. Double vision gone except for late at night, when I may not be holding my head right. I think I go back to that thing where I would do this strange, holding my head back and looking down, to see something in front of me. I may not be explaining this right. People also say that one eye that used to go off in its own direction, seems to be looking at them most of the time now. Night vision is better and I can drive if I really have to. Still light sensitive, but not the intense pain. Much easier to control. I can read once again, and can see this computer screen without such a battle. I do so hope this can happen for you. So if it turns out 75 mg. is too much, lets figure out how to cut this down, but be consistent. At this point in my life, I do not think this is a low dose. But I know I still need it regularly, as my heartbeat goes up pretty quickly when I forget to take my pill. I would say within a couple of hours. Though I think the good old endo would never believe me. When he had me taking 300 mg in one dose, he did not believe that I could not move, much less get my pants on. = :-o And that was after having come down from a higher dose. -Pam- geezzz, I love a day off !
