Guest guest
Hi everyone - My name is and it seems that I've had an eating disorder...who knew?!?!?! I was in & Noble w/ my wife (she was looking for a specific book, I was just wandering) and, out of habit, I went to the Diet section looking for the newest and greatest thing that would get rid of this tractor tire around my waist. I have tried 'em all and am heavier now than when I started dieting. Gazing over the plethora o' propaganda (Eat carbs, Don't eat carbs, Exercise more, Exercise less, Eat like a cave man, etc.) I stumbled upon a book entitled " Intuitive Eating " . " Hey " , I thought, " I have intuition. I can eat. This book might be for me. " Well, it certainly was. This book has changed my life. I was primarily an " unconscious eater " , stuffing myself silly with anything I could lay my hands on while watching sports on t.v. or reading a book. I would stuff myself way past the point of discomfort. Then I discovered " dieting " which added the component of deprivation to my unconscious binges. Bad. Anyway, this book, and a lot of materials I've since found on the 'net, including this terrific group (I'm still catching up on reading the past posts) have shown me that I had NO relationship with food whatsoever. I couldn't even have told you what I liked to eat. I had no sense of hunger / satisfaction and simply did not know how to savor food. Long story short (short?), I'm actually paying attention to eating and what a difference it has made in almost every aspect of my life. It's so much easier to do what I want to do without carrying around that " packed to the gills " feeling. My only real test now is to not get too giddy when I see my pants getting looser and to lapse back into the diet mindset. Thanks to all who contribute here. It helps a lot!!
