Guest guest
Thanks to Vicki for airing this PBS podcast. Here is why you have to read beyond the headlines and even do some translating from typical sloppy reporting (and writing) and the whole or real truth. These were things I heard in this explanation that in no way were reflected in the headlines: Everyone in the study had to have risk factors for heart disease or have had a heart attack. Seventy-five percent of diabetics die of heart disease or stroke. The study used drugs to lower the A1C and did nothing about diet or exercise? The very stringent group only had a bit higher incidents of death (3 per 1,000 more), but overall the test group had a lower incidents of death.
