Invitation: State level pre-consultation workshop on Policy framework for children and AIDS

Dear Forum,

Social Awareness Service Organisation (SASO), with support from India

HIV/AIDS Alliance, is organizing half day pre consultation workshop on

Policy framework for children and AIDS, on 6th February, 2009 at9:30 am at Hotel

Imphal, North BOC, Imphal to discuss HIV infection and its impact on children,

scope of the policy, mandate and responsibilities of different government

bodies, management and coordination at state and district level.

" The Policy Framework for Children and AIDS " , India was framed by NACO and

Ministry of Women and Child Development in July 2007 and it seeks to broaden the

focus of NACP – III (National AIDS Control Programme Phase III) to include and

address the specific needs of children affected with HIV/AIDS.

This Policy Framework adopts a rights based approach and provides a mandate and

framework for government departments at all levels of governance, working for

the welfare of children, and to collaborate.

It establishes a mechanism to coordinate the efforts of civil society, NGOs and

the private sector towards achievement of its goals. The Operational Guidelines

under the policy outlines the package of services for care and support for

children affected by HIV/AIDS.

The Policy Framework would assist organisations and communities in

implementing their programmes and aligning their response on HIV/AIDS and

children with the national and state response. Also, contribution to the

guidelines from your experience of working with children would enable a more

robust response.

Taking into consideration the importance of the policy in our State we

humbly request your presence and your valuable inputs in the pre-

consultation Workshop.
