Guest guest
Is it absolutely necessary to have a PDR in the very beginning of transcribing? If so, what is a good one to have? Thanks for any help. Guest guest
Norma, If by PDR you are referring to the Physician's Desk Reference, I believe there is only the one. I do not believe it is necessary to have the Physician's Desk Reference per se, but I do feel it is imperative that you have some kind of drug book. There are several that are very good. My personal favorite is the Drake & Drake Pharmaceutical Word Book, which you will see referred to on this list in various ways, such as Drake & Drake, D & D, or Saunders Pharmacuetical Word Book. I believe the reason this one is my favorite is simply because it is the one I have used for so many years; I really have not had experience with many of the others. It comes out new every December (or sometime thereabout). Another one used a lot by people on this list is the Quick Look Drug Book, which also comes in an electronic form. Sounds like this one is great (especially the electronic one) for looking up drugs when you are unsure of the spelling. This one is also referred to as the QLDB and comes out yearly. Another good one is the Monthly Prescribing Reference, which comes out monthly. You will probably get answers about others, I believe there is something called the American Drug Index or ADI, but I know nothing about that one. Hope this gives you some information.
