Sorry- I think I confused you with someone else. There was one girl on here who said almost everyone around her had them, so she doesn't talk about the illness. She said she told them why she had them removed, so if they ever start having problems, they know they can come to her, but that she doesn't keep talking to them about it because they aren't ready to hear it (yet).

I think one of the other problems with implant illness is that people can't "see" it. My mom doesn't believe I have narcolepsy because she can't see it. She always says things like, "Well, you always slept normally as a child." (Apparently she doesn't remember the time I almost slept through our house burning down, and had to be woken a couple of times before I'd get out of bed and out of the house.) She always looks for evidence to prove that my doctor is wrong and I really don't have narcolepsy. She got mad at me on Christmas for saying I was tired. It was our third day in a row of family Christmas rituals and I was exhausted. Her response was, "Fine. Then next year you can stay home and we'll just buy gifts for

Mike." (my husband)She also doesn't believe that I am allergic to pepper, so she keeps sneaking it into foods, which causes my lips and throat to burn, my throat to constrict, and my face to turn red. Ahhh...the warmth of motherly love. Anyway, if she can't see it, she doesn't believe it. So implant illness has that double-whammy that most of its symptoms are only felt by the person experiencing them, and hard or impossible to demonstrate to others. Good for you! In any case, I think Ballerina's point is valid (maybe

she got the wrong name.) I've heard quite a few women who were sick

relate that when they start talking about their illness with their

implanted friends, they are treated differently. ..like there is

something wrong with them! I've known the feeling....I' ve also been

treated "differently" because my experience doesn't line up with what

everyone thinks is the truth. Family members and friends don't

believe implants can make people sick because the doctors say so, and

that I'm just making my illness out to be worse than it is, or that

I've blamed the wrong thing for my health problems. It's very

frustrating! !!!!

Yep, that was me (Krista.) 75% of my friends have implants and I don't

talk about the illness a lot because I know they think I am raining on

their boob parade. However, they DO know about my illness and they

will come around when they are ready.

Insurance covered the explant, which I am lucky. It would have been

$11,500 but it cost me $800. Many women aren't so fortunate. What

has cost me so much is all the various eye exams that weren't covered

under insurance, as well as all the testing, alternative therapies

and supplements. Most women have to go the alternative route and

therefore, insurance doesn't pay. Implant illness not only takes

your health, but your career, your relationships, your finances, your

Ballerina,

I can totally relate! If people think you look fine, then to them,

you must feel fine. Like w/ your pepper reaction, no one understands

my chemical sensitivities or food intolerances. I met some relatives

at a restaurant and I show up, smile and am able to order from the

menu and carry on polite small talk, yet my brain isn't working how

it used to and my vision is extremely blurry. I later hear from

others that I must be doing great because I seemed like my old self.

You are so correct ! ! I am so sorry your mom is so mean,

manipulative, and undermining to you. Next time she pulls

that crap, you might ask her ( in front of everyone) why she

continues to knowingly poisen you. Tell her it is time she

respect you and your boundries, if for no other reason out

That's a great idea, and to get the wires out is usually easy;

there's always a tube sewn for the stiffening bars (the " wires " ), that

has one end open. You can put some tweezers in there, grab the bar,

and pull it out. The bra may or may not fit correctly, due to the

construction, but I have had success with some that hurt me after

implantation doing just that. Hope that helps someone...

I feel like I can't win with this stuff. I made the mistake of telling my mom about my ear pain, and chronic all-over body pain. Her immediate response was, "You never told me about this. You've never seemed to be in pain to me." Well, that reaction is exactly WHY I never told her about it. So now instead of getting a, "Wow! You really hold up well under it- you'd never know you were in pain," I get comments that insinuate I'm making it up, or it isn't as bad as I think. If I were to complain about it, like I complained about being tired on Christmas, I'd get her sarcastic-toned, "Well if it's so bad for you, just stay home next year and instead of giving you gifts, we'll give more to Mike" (my

husband).If we do let on that we're in pain (or have chemical sensitivities, or blurry vision, etc. etc.), we're complaining needlessly about something they don't see and therefore don't believe. If we don't complain, they use it as proof that we don't really have any physical ailments after all.I guess we're supposed to "suffer in silence" until we have a broken leg or something we can prove. (being tested positive for narcolepsy in both genes and falling asleep each day multiple times while I drove to work still wasn't enough to convince my mother that I have it!) Re: I'm

I can totally relate! If people think you look fine, then to them,

you must feel fine. Like w/ your pepper reaction, no one understands

my chemical sensitivities or food intolerances. I met some relatives

at a restaurant and I show up, smile and am able to order from the

menu and carry on polite small talk, yet my brain isn't working how

it used to and my vision is extremely blurry. I later hear from

others that I must be doing great because I seemed like my old self.

This is going to sound utterly ridiculous in light of everything that is discussed on this board, but one of the reasons I was signed up for a breast aug was because I couldn't find a bra that fit right, and I thought I needed implants to make the bras fit. (I'm wide in the base, and shallow in the cup)Then I went to wirefree bras to clear up some fibrocystic pain, and found out I can find bras that fit, as long as they don't have wires in them!And now to hear that you, after augmentation, had to take wires out to get some bras to fit, is even more ironic. What if I'd gone through the surgery, only to find out that even then I couldn't find comfortably fitting wired bras? What a total waste that

would have been. I was convinced my body was "wrong" since it didn't fit into a normal (wired) bra. Maybe it is "wrong", but it mashes into a wirefree bra just fine. Re: I'm new here and considering Breast Augmentation

you, and this makes HER flawed, cant have that ! !

I'm sorry you are dealing with that kind of response from your mother.

I would be hurt too.

My advice is to view your mother in a way that realizes she also has

imperfections and know that you are doing the best you can. It would

be nice if she would respond in the way you hope for, but when they

can't, I find it best to turn it all over to God and be thankful that

He understands!

You sound like you're built just like me! I was also kinda droopy,

tho, as well. So when I bent over, I looked pendulous. But yes, I

have a hard time wearing the wired bras because my breasts actually

hurt after wearing them for a day (which I no longer do). I now am

mostly wearing runners support bras for comfort, day and night.

Sexy,no, Comfy, yes. Any I need the support until these come out.

One other odd drawback to my particular implant case is my nipples.

One will get " perky " and the one that is alternately numb or sore is

usually flat when the other is perky. Looks very odd though a shirt

when I'm wearing these jogbras, geesh. And no, you don't sound

ridiculous at all. In fact, fitting all the pretty bras I saw out

there was my second reason for getting myself altered. Glad you saved

yourself all the money and anguish! BTW, Have you looked at any of

your bras to see if they fit better w/o the bands in them yet?

Thanks for the advice. I'm pretty much used to it. It just bothers me that they make a point to be sarcastic about my intolerance of pepper, garlic, etc. EVERY time we see each other, and that they sneak it into my food & tell me they didn't just to "prove" that the intolerance is all in my head. I'm sorry you are dealing with that kind of response from your mother.

I would be hurt too.

My advice is to view your mother in a way that realizes she also has

imperfections and know that you are doing the best you can. It would

be nice if she would respond in the way you hope for, but when they

can't, I find it best to turn it all over to God and be thankful that

He understands!

Ballerina,

My mom has reacted the same way to some of my ailments to the point I

didn't tell her that a doctor wanted to rule out lymphoma. But now

that I'm a parent I realize why she'd sometimes freak out. Moms have

a hard time seeing their children ill. When my kids would get sick,

I'd think things like " If only I'd given them more echinacea, etc.

etc. " Moms have a lot of unnecessary guilt and your mom might be

feeling that, especially when the genes come out positive for

narcolepsy...like she will fault herself for a defective gene yet, in

Ballerina,

Sometimes it seems that people don't want to hear about your

suffering or turn it around on you because it takes the attention away

from them, and they want it all. I don't know if that is your

mother's problem or not, but I know that whenever I used (note the

word, used) to tell her about a problem I was having, she would

immediately jump in and tell me about what was so awful that was going

on with her that was supposedly worse than I was going through. I

never figured out whether I was supposed to just suffer in silence or

she wanted more attention. I once had an absessed tooth, and it took

me breaking out in boils all over, from which I still have scars

(emotional and physical), to get her to take me to a doctor! I

learned her selfishness from her very well, and am just in the past

year waking up and trying to begin anew up my shaky relationship with

my wonderful gift of a daughter, for whom I wan't very " present "

during her formative years. How she turned out as well as she did is

her work alone, I'm afraid. And I am so sad I was so " all about me " -

it's a huge regret.

I am so sorry the one person who you would think would be the most

caring can't be there for you right now. I'm also sorry she feels the

need to be sarcastic (Greek, " to tear flesh " -ouch), but we often find

family beyond blood. And often, those family ties are much more

She did used to say things like, "What have I given you now?" every time my sister or I told her about some physical problem. We were always confused and insulted because we were just trying to tell her about ourselves, and she always wanted to make it about her. We wondered why she had to make everything about her, and take all of our ailments as personal insults to her somehow. I always thought she was faking that "motherly guilt thing", but maybe she wasn't. Also, she went through this weird stage where EVERYTHING we got, she was convinced was a sexually transmitted disease. It's funny now, but it wasn't then. When I was 19 years old, I got pityriosis rosea (kind of like chicken pox). It took going to a

couple of doctors until they could figure out what it was. It started on my chest and spread to my back, then outwards from there. I remember sitting in a waiting room at U of M hospital with my mom saying, "I just know it's herpes... So help me God if this is some sexually transmitted disease..." She asked me if I'd done anything with anyone. I admitted I'd kissed a boy I'd just started dating. She made this sound like she was completely disgusted with me, and moved a seat away from me! The rash was nowhere on my face or anywhere but my chest & back, yet she had me convinced I had an STD. (she almost didn't believe the dermatologist who finally diagnosed it as pityriasis rosea)Every time I had leg pain from cramps, she accused me of having an STD. She was out of control in that stage. My mom has reacted the same way to some of my ailments to the point I

didn't tell her that a doctor wanted to rule out lymphoma. But now

that I'm a parent I realize why she'd sometimes freak out. Moms have

a hard time seeing their children ill. When my kids would get sick,

I'd think things like "If only I'd given them more echinacea, etc.

etc." Moms have a lot of unnecessary guilt and your mom might be

feeling that, especially when the genes come out positive for

narcolepsy.. .like she will fault herself for a defective gene yet, in

Yes I read that too... It say's that women have claimed to have gotten Auto Immune Diseases from implants, however there is no proof that this is true? When I started getting Auto Immune Symptoms from my "safe" saline implants, I must have read that statement a thousand times over, then finally I found these women... It saved my life...

The studies done on Silicone did prove Auto Immune Disease, the problem with those studies, is the implant manufacturers, paid for that study and they also wrote down what the study needed to say, to say SAFE lets make Money...

Trust me if I had to do over I would RUN and never ever doubt my small breast again...
