Dave,

We have used the MedX lumbar system for the last 10 years in our outpatient

ortho clinic and have been very pleased with it. It does a great job of

stabilizing the pelvis and allowing for strengthening of the lumbar

paraspinals. If your docs are behind it, it is a great tool for low back

pain. It is more aggressive than traditional spinal stabilization

exercises, but we have used it on older patients with great success as well.

It will make patients sore initially, so education of the patient and the

physician are important. It provides real-time feedback of the exercise

session, which helps with patient buy in as well. One thing we really like

about it is that it does norm based testing that allows us to track patients

progress with much more objective data than is commonly available with other

lumbar strength tests. It also has the ability to test for consistency if

that is applicable, as in the workers comp population.

Overall, we've been pleased with it. It's not a cure all or substitute for

quality care, but I believe it is much more effective than traditional

spinal stabilization exercises. Feel free to contact me if you have any

other questions.

Subject: MedX " Scientifically Proven Exercise and Medical

Equipment "

I searched the message archives and didn't find anything on this topic (in

the past couple years, anyway), so I apologize in advance if I missed a

recent post.

A company contacted my VP last week about purchasing some MedX equipment for

our outpatient clinics - and apparently did a pretty slick sales routine

because she wants me to investigate further.

My initial reaction to this is that it's not a good substitute for the

hands-on care that we currently provide, and that the money could be spent

much more wisely elsewhere. However, before I give my " final answer " I

wanted to see if anyone in this community has experience with the MedX and

feels that it's (a) a complete waste of money or (B) the best thing since

sliced bread (or anything in between).

Thank you in advance for your assistance and have a great day.
