Guest guest
Re: a child having a yeast problem but not having been on antibiotics--in Karyn S's book, I think she mentions undiagnosed maternal yeast problems being passed on to the child (kicking off the leaky gut?). I never thought about it before, but now I think this might be the case with my son. I was talking with our doctor on Friday and looking back through Max's records and found/remembered that we had one bout with thrush while breastfeeding and then he had a diaper yeast rash twice between ages 1-2 for no apparent reason. Then when I was breastfeeding my NT daughter Lily last year, we had thrush for 6 months (on Nystatin for 4 months). It didn't go away until she stopped breastfeeding. My doctor pointed out that I need to get checked for yeast and have my daughter checked too--I have always had really good health and digestion so it never occurred to me that I might have a problem. But there's a good chance that I've got an overgrowth and that's where Max got it in the first place (rather than from overuse of antibiotics--he's never even had an ear infection). Maybe this could be the case for others whose children haven't had antibiotics but have yeast overgrowth? - Becky B.
