Guest guest
How can one (the public) ever trust a physician's advice knowing their decision making is guided by how many bucks they can put in their pocket? And when are we gonna expose it to everyone other than our own? Why aren't everyone posting these links to their Facebook pages? Why aren't each of us blast-forwarding these links to everyone in our address books, so our accountants see it, out mechanics see it, our dentists see it, our cousins, neighbors, pediatricians, pastors and priests, pharmacists and PTA moms & dads? When are we going to be ready to publicly call it corruption? When are we going to embrace it all together around something other then the Superbowl? When are we going to call orthopedist incompetents in treating, lets say the LBP? When are we going to show the world that we are it. That we know it. We own it and that no one better mess with us. Are you afraid the physician will refer you one less patient this week? We need not lay down and let the tank run us over. If you think this is self serving, DON’T forget the public getting the short end of the stick and being profited from much more than we are. For the ones of us that are so fond of " policing " the world of PT: Who is policing this? Who is going to protect the true and the righteous and defend the public AND the taxpayer interest? Are we waiting for the orthopedists to " police themselves " ? Or the newest crook to encroach us, be it a podiatris, a chiropractor, an ATC or some NASDQ traded corp for that matter? When are we gonna call it like it is? Are we so consumed by our own independent self existence that we are missing to look at the collective WE that will forever change this physical therapist landscape for the worst if not for the better? Or are we waiting for somebody else to do it for us? Your Senator? Your Congressman? Your Association? They all already showed us what they are willing to do. That's why we are here right now. Our memories are too short and we forget very quick. These threads and postings last one or two days and there we go with our " other " lives. We - physiotherapists in private practice - sit in the way of " their " " discretionary " profits. What for us is our livelihood, for " them " is spending money. Is the new boat, the Country club membership subsidy, or whatever. Corporate medicine plays with the public's right to chose for their self-benefit and our professional ( & personal!) demise. And all that perpetuated by the black sheep amongst our own, and we still shake hands and play softball together. Can anybody else, other than me, please, say " ENOUGH " ? Thank you , for tirelessly posting these! Shame on all of us for being mere spectators of our own destruction unfolding. Guest guest
I am sorry to hear about your situation, but this will be the situation of most of us in the very near future. Lack of foresight is what affects the PT community. When we close our clinics, we will seek jobs in hospitals. Salaries will drop. But even if they didn’t, when ATC’s start billing MCB, which they will eventually achieve by ways of orthopedist lobbying, who do you think the hospital will hire? Money talks. Follow the money. Many of us talk about quality of our services, research based practices etc like it was of any importance to any CFO anywhere, or the POPT office manager, or Corporate insurance. When we wake up to realize that is not the decision maker factor on any of the issues that affect us, we will be better off. We have acted like children for the last 50 years. We either need to group, take a good real look of the world around us or we are going to be placed in time out on the corner, because the bigger boys want the playground and they are gonna bully us out of the park. They own the ball and they want us to pay if want to play. I used to think this was a private practice battle, but things are about to change. All PTs are going to feel it. Guest guest
Did he think we were " physician extenders " ? I wonder how physicians feel about the use of " Physician Extenders " . I am referring to Advanced Nurse Practitioners & Physician Assistants. I see their widespread use in MD practices but locally we also see them able to practice in essentially indep. practice. Even within MD practices their power is expanding, my wife was referred by a indep ANP last year to see a specialist.. The specialist was called out for emergency and she was seen by his ANP. On her second visit the problem remained and the ANP again saw her with no pretense of referring to the specialist. I totally agree that the ANP/PA can see routine issues and do routine follow up but really.. Only good thing is the wait times in MD offices have been reduced dramatically. BTW, I graduated in 1977 and never considered myself to be a physician extender. Steve Passmore PT, MS Healthy Recruiting Tools spass@... Phone: Fax: " What We Did For You Yesterday Is History.
