Hi ,

They should be reading and signing a HIPAA Business Associate form but only

if they have access to protected health information while performing

services. I would recommend, however, that to be safe and especially if

they are working unattended, that you have them first sign the form no

matter what access they have. If they refuse to sign, you should look for

another IT person/service.

Dear Group: I'd like to hear how you handle confidentiality when you have an

I.T. person come in to do work for the office.

Do you have this person sign some sort of HIPAA form? I'd be very interested

in your sharing with me.

Thank you,

,

On a recent JCAHO survey at our medical group, the surveyors wanted copies of

HIPPA forms signed by the cleaning people. I would assume they would also want

outside IT vendors to sign a form as well. Rather be safe than sorry!
