Guest guest
We charge one unit but have a productivity value that gives us the “average†for the amount of time it takes for that CPT code. Example: 1 swallowing treatment charge generates 2 productivity units as this is typically a 30 min treatment at our facility. , PT SMGSI Mt. Do you code by levels for each CPT code? Do you charge one straight fee for each CPT code? Currently, we have been charging by levels for years and an outside consultant states we need to move to one straight fee for each CPT code. They state that if we continue to charge per level that this is a red flag for a RAC audit. Any thoughts? Guest guest
While you do not mention a specific code, I do know that quite a few of the speech codes are untimed (which might cause problems with what I am stating below). Many years ago I attended a Helene Fearon seminar in which she indicated that if you can delineate a difference in the scope of your services, you can justify a change in your customary charge. More specifically, she was referring to performing a lesser service, not a greater one. And in order to justify the difference in the charge, you would have to do the following: 1. Document why. 2. Utilize a -52 modifier on the claim to indicate it was a " reduced service " . Since I am not a therapist (and did not sleep at a Holiday Express last night), I will let the therapists on this list correct me or further clarify additions to this post. Guest guest
Almost all speech codes are service based. It is one charge for 15 minutes or an hour and 15 minutes. If you are a SNF IP then the extra minutes will benefit you on the RUG levels only. Pamela J.
