you should go to your employer. You probably would not have nor could get into

any networks on your own at this time. We typically terminate the PT's when they

leave our facility from any individual contracts. Most of our contracts are now

group including Medicare.

Hope this helps

Do I need new provider numbers?

I'm starting my practice in a few months. Currently I have provider numbers for

Medicare, BCBS, etc through my employer. They did all the leg work when I

signed on and bill for my PT services under those. What I'm wondering is should

I go to them to get those numbers back when the time comes, or should I just

re-apply? Do they have the right to say 'no' since they did the work to apply

and covered whatever costs were incurred?

Thanks

Joe,

Most of the time you can get your Medicare number or BCBS number by writing a

request to the insurance provider. For Medicare, you may want to reassign your

individual number to a new group Medicare number for your business. (Medicare

often assigns a separate 855r number to reassign your individual number to the

particular PT practice.) Many of the other private insurance providers will

simply have you under the practice's group provider number, so you won't have an

individual number to take for those insurance companies.

If you are starting your own practice, you only need to contact provider

enrollment to get credentialed. Doesn't matter if you have already been

credentialed by your present employer. All you need to do is contact provider

enrollment and tell them your intentions and they should be able to walk you

through the process.

Joe,

As someone who just opened a new practice I can say absolutely yes you will need

to be recontracted and recredentialed with most providers. This can take time

so start now. I would recommend calling and asking each what steps to take but

most will at the very least need a Provider Change form and many will require

new contracts. Most have applications online. If you are starting your own

practice you may be better off just getting group contracts for your practice so

that you don't have do contract each provider and do a reassignment of their

benefits.

Good Luck.

The APTA database only includes APTA members and the APTA does not sell that

database. I have found no way to purchase a PT database with email addresses,

etc., but would love to be able to purchase such a database.
