I would be careful of Primal Defense. Some people seem to have good results

with it. My son was on it for six weeks, and the longer he was on it, the

worse he got. Eventually, he was very hyper and had dilated pupils. It may be

due to the chlorella in Primal Defense.

Thanks Alison. When you say 3+ to 1, what test measured his candida. Also, do

you know what ingredients children are sensitive to in Primal Defense? Thanks,

Joyce

Hi, I had joined this list a few months ago but unsubscribed

temporarily.

I think my son may have candida. He's 3 1/2. The past few months he

has had bad breath, really bad.

HE has sugar cravings, and I have candida although it's much better

now. I quit eating all sugar (including maple syrup, raisins, etc.)

about 3 years ago. and wheat.

I breastfed him for 3 years. So he's likely to have it.

Even though I don't feed him refined sugar, he manages to get it from

raisins, applesauce, and that sort of thing.

What probiotic have some of you used for your children successfully?

I have heard that Primal Defense is good.

Thanks for your help,

Joyce Kehoe

Hi. My son was diagnosed with yeast overgrowth at 3 1/2. He started

taking oral nystatin twice a day and improved hugely. Now every time

I try to take him off it we have problems (he's 6). We are developing

resistance to the nystatin. This is why I like to share my yeast

stories. I give 2 ml nystatin every day in the morning (45 lb child),

then after school I give a rotation herbal. That is 10 days or so of

each, then move to the next herb. The best I've found is Kirkmans

yeast control. I also use garlic, oregano oil, and cranberry extract.

I give the cranberry 3 times a day, it seems to make it more

effective. I do plan to eliminate the Nystatin at the end of the

school year. It's resistant after all.

Hi Joyce

Primal Defence does have a very good reputation for being a good product but

some kids are apparently sensitive to some of the ingredients. We used

" Bio-Kult " for our little boy along with Olive Leaf Extract and his Candida went

from 3+ (pathogenic) to 1 (normal) in a couple of months. Bio-Kult is made in

the UK. You can go to the website for more information. I think it is

Hi

I'm not Alison but we also use BioKult. It was described to me as Primal

Defense WITHOUT the wheat grasses and chorella. This company started

producing in UK when Garden of life were going to stop the capsules and only

offer tabs. I think they backtracked and still do caps now. The best things

about BioKult are that capsules are half the size of PD, its white instead of

black AND it disolves and is tasteless, I never got an emptied cap of PD to

dissolve at all. And, its in the UK so I don't have to pay duty LOL

Hi Joyce

We had the test done through Great Smokies Diagnostic Laboratory. They test a

stool sample and send back results for bacteriology, mycology. When we had the

first test done it also indicated that the candida was resistant to Nystatin and

most of the natural substances normally used to get rid of it too. We did not

want to use the stronger candida medications and a friend of ours told us about

Olive Leaf Extract. So we tried it and it looks like it has worked (for now

anyway!).

I don't know what specific ingredients would cause sensitivity in Primal

Defense, but as i remember there are a number of substances added to the

probiotic. I guess a reaction, if any, would depend on the child. I know

Bio-Kult was devised with autistic children in mind and as far as I am aware it

it tolerated better by the children as it doesn't have things added that might

cause a problem.

Alison or anyone using Bio-Kult, I have concerns about it being irradiated when

it has gone through customs. Does anyone think this has affected its

effectiveness? I'm assuming it's only manufactured in the UK.

Hi Alison,

Did you use olive leaf extract in the capsule form? If so, what

dosage did you use? (what was the strenth of the cap)? I've just

bought it for my son and was wondering how much to give(it is 200 mg).

I used Biokult for him with small doses (1/4 cap) and he reacted with

headache and bodypains.

Hi Rima

We use a liquid form of Olive leaf extract. It is made in Australia by Olive

leaf Australia Pty Ltd. I give three 2.5ml spoonfuls every day in juice (half

the adult dose). It tastes OK in juice but is slightly bitter on its own. I am

not sure what this would equal in terms of capsules but the company who make the

liquid might be able to help. The e-mail address is oliveleaf@...

With the Bio-Kult, our instructions were to build up the intake slowly and to

expect a " die-off " reaction from the candida. We started on 1 capsule per day

split into two doses - half given in the morning and half last thing at night

before bed. Then we added one capusel every three to four days. If there was a

reaction we were told to drop the dose back to the previous level. Eventually

you are supposed to build up to five capsules per day.

Did you give your little one just a quarter capsule for the day or a number of

quarters across the day? Maybe it was too much too soon and you have to take it

even slower! Could it have been a die off reaction - sounds like the type of

symptoms we were told to expect from die off. Our son went through a few " bad "

weeks when we started with these products but I guess at the end of the day we

were " attacking " the candida with the Olive leaf and the probiotic at the same

time (as well as limiting complex carbohydrates in his diet).

Hope this helps.

Doesn't seem to have had an effect in our case as gut flora is all in balance.

But I can't say for sure of course. What about going to the website and

e-mailing the company who make it with this question?
