Guest guest
Dana:Are you too young to remember Bat Masterson? That's the kind of cane you need! Or a spy type cane from one of the spy headquarters type stores! LOL When I first started using a cane I bought a folding cane that had beautiful purple flowers on it. I could put it in my purse and then bring it out if I really needed it. Sharon This email is a natural hand made product. Re: Feeling bummed by canes, walkers, power chairs I think in the long run one can see the motor chair as "liberating" in that it will allow you to do more and relieve some of the fatigue of walking everywhere. In the short term, it is a bummer as one feels one is giving in/or losing the battle with MS. For me at present, that's my situation with a walking cane. I have one that I took with me on my vacation. But, I still couldn't bring myself to use it. --Dana F. Guest guest
Hi DebbieI hope you don't let our discussions dampen your spirits or scare you. I would say the majority of us really do have good lives in spite of MS. Unfortunately there is a lot of pain in MS. Did you know it wasn't very many years ago that doctors said MS was "painless"? LOL I participated in a conference with Dr. Vollmer (researcher and MS doc) and he talked about MS pain and I think he said 65% of MSers have pain to some degree. I may be wrong in that percentage so please don't quote me. :)hugs)))Sharon This email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
{{{{{{{SHARON}}}}}}}}}} Never ever feel stupid for the way you feel. Tho new to all this, I can feel in this group that at least we all do understand, and I guess at times tears will flow for things we no longer will have, but we can't feel stupid about having a disease as this. Hang in there Hugs ConnieS Thank you Kate. I feel teary and stupid for feeling this way. But I am thankful I have such a wonderful doc. Guest guest
Well I never knew MS'ers had incredible pain, now that I've been diagnosed, and joined here, found out that my family members who do have it actually don't have any pain with it, so it was pretty newsy to me! Guest guest
Hi Tom! I am happy to hear you are so independent. That is wonderful! I hope to one day drive again. I cannot wait to get my power chair. I hope to feel I have gained some independance once I do. I got the books! Thankyou sooooo much! I started 20 years and still coping and prevailing. I love the quotes you have inside! I have just started it and love it! I loved how you wrote. " IF YOU ARE NOT RIDING THE WAVE OF CHANGE...YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF BENEATH IT . " How true this is!! I also loved the example of life with the golf balls. This is something I will share with lots of my family. I am so very impressed!! You are an inspiration in many ways! I also had to brag about you and show my family the books and told them I know you! Lol. They were impressed as well. Keep up the good work. Hugz, cassy Re: Feeling bummed by canes, walkers, power chairs Sharon, I know exactly how you feel. However, four years ago I got my power wheel chair and it has revolutionized my life. I can go anywhere I like at any time, need no assistance, drive with a ramp van and hand controls, and I am completely independent. Do it, do it, do it. Guest guest
Hey Sharon! I feel the same way. I never thought I would require all a cane at 23 almost 24, a walker at 25 and now an electric wheelchair at 26. Sometimes I think Oh crap! Whats gonna be next? Not that there is more, well. I guess there is. I am housebound and my worst nightmare is being bed bound. At least now I have the whole house.lol. And im hoping to have more with the chair but know I will also have to quickly get over the questions and stares and hopefully lead a more productive life. I am a homebody but sometimes(usually after a few wks) I go stir crazy.lol.I guess life is all about adjusting and change but sometimes it sure does suck.lol. hugz, cassy Feeling bummed by canes, walkers, power chairs I feel bummed by the idea of qualifying for a power chair. Guest guest
Cassy, I'm SO glad you will finally be getting that muscle biopsy. Be sure to let me know when it is and I'll put it on my calendar! And I hope things move quickly on your power chair and shower chair. You need the things to make life easier and to conserve your energy for the important parts of life--like your family. Has Pay ever been gone before? When you said her dad joined the Army I was wondering if that was going to help you with support. That's something to look forward to! There's nothing premature about thinking and planning for your future. I think you are being very smart. You have to look out for YOU and your girls and that's what you are doing. loveSharon This email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
Thanks:) I really appreciate it. Connie Feeling bummed by canes, walkers, power chairs I feel bummed by the idea of qualifying for a power chair. But I guess I would be bummed out if they said I didn't qualify, too. It's one of those hard things--like the first time walking with a cane, using the electric scooter/cart in the grocery store for the first few times--those kind of milestones. How does everyone else feel about it?hugs)))Sharon This email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
Hi Sharon! Thanks so much! I will definetly let you know about my biopsy date. I should know monday when I call. No. Pay has never been away from home without me. Going to my nannys was the 2nd time ever for me being away from her. Im sure she will be ok but it is still scary her flying and then being so far without me. Her gma will take good care of her but isnt the same as mom. I dont know whats gonna happen with me and Rene. I went and stayed a few nights with my mom.He is an alcoholic and relapsed again. Im trying to be here for him but cant babysit him. Im just tired of it. And every time he relapses even if its a beer he uses the excuse that hes an alcoholic. Its almost like he knows that excuse is available and can use it every time.Arghhhh!! Pray for us. I dont know how much longer I can deal with it.Plus he is bi-polar and takes meds. He isnt stable at all and should not be drinking at all. Well, hopefully this too shall pass.luv ya! How are you feeling? cassy Re: Feeling bummed by canes, walkers, power chairs Cassy, I'm SO glad you will finally be getting that muscle biopsy. You have to look out for YOU and your girls and that's what you are doing. love Sharon This email is a natural hand made product.
