Guest guest
Hello Maggie Welcome to our list. I'm Becky from Ohio in the U.S. Congratulations on your desire to get a talking glucometer despite being told by your doctor that you only need to have your sugar checked once every three months. We as diabetics, stand the best chance of controlling our sugar if we monitor it ourselves. I know too many diabetics who are happy to just go to the doctor every few months without monitoring their sugar in between appointments. You have the right attitude. Becky _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Maggie Rush Sent: Wednesday, July 02, 2008 3:26 AM To: Blind-Diabetics Subject: Introduction Hello everyone. My name is Maggie. I live in New Zealand. I'm totally blind as is my husband Trevor, and our son Neil, aged 12 is partially sighted. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last week, and have been placed on two metformin pills a day, not sure of the dosage of each one. At this stage they tell me I only need to have my blood sugars done every three months, but I am in the process of hopefully getting a talking glucometer through our foundation of the blind sometime soon, so I can keep tabs on what is going on with my sugars myself. I look forward to reading emails from the group and learning by other's experiences, I can't think of any questions right now, but I'm sure I will have plenty as time goes on. Hugs, Maggie. Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to this diabetic group. I am sure you will find the information shared amongst our members very useful. I am also from England, but be aware, many of the members here are from the States and Canada, and you will find that the blood results pertaining to american diabetics are not the same as those given in British terms. Also, some of the ingredients given in recipes, either have a different name here in England to those in the States, for example, Swede, in England, is known in America, as Rootabega. But also many of the ingredients are not available over here in our shops. All The Best, Rowe Introduction Hello. My name is and have type1 diabetes since I was 7 years old, I am 32 now. Have learned things from this group even though I have been a diabetic for almost 30 years. Introduction Hello. My name is and have type1 diabetes since I was 7 years old, I am 32 now. Lost my sight on January 26th 1998, which happily is now my wedding anniversary. I lost my sight due to diabetic retinopathy and acute glaucoma and lost my kidney function at the same time. Thankfully, in May 2004, I had a live related kidney transplant from my mum at St 's in Padington, London.I live in Yealmpton near Plymouth in Devon now, since December 2005, but I am from Basildon in Essex and that's where my true home is, suppose it's a case of what you've grown up with and most familiar with is what's close to your heart. Anyway, supposed that's enogh about me for now, and would just like hi to everyone in the group. Cheers, . Windows Live Messenger: paulus_mills@ <mailto:paulus_mills%40hotmail.com> hotmail.com.
