Guest guest
Hi I was recently looking at going for pump therapy but still not sure about it. How convenient is it? The pump itself I mean, I was concerned it may be cumbersome. Anyway, I use Novarapid in a pen and Levemeir as a background insulin.Control hasn't been all that good the last 12 months with HBac1 hitting 9 last year, it's a little better now but still not terrific. What I really need to do is lose a load of weight as since my transplant in 2004, I've put on 3.5 stones. But losing weight with t1 diabetes is very difficult. . Guest guest
Hi Jen What part of Canada are you from? It a big place. Love to be able to go there and do the trans canadian railway. Now forgive me because I am going to ask a question usually asked by sighties, but not being born blind I am curious and not sure why I haven't asked anyone before. I dream in images in full technicolour, if you've been born blind what do you see when you dream? Just an inquisitive mind I have I suppose.BFN . Guest guest
Hi , I'm not but thought I'd chime in and give you my two cents. I've been using a pump for a year and a half and I LOVE it. Once you learn to use it, it makes life so much easier and more flexible. My A1c dropped from 7.9 to 6.4 within the first six months of being on the pump. It's crept up a bit since then, but due to my laziness in keeping records, counting carbs, and exercising rather than because of the pump. I was worried that having something attached to me all the time would be cumbersome or annoying, but it really isn't. Most of the time I forget it's there, sometimes I have to check to make sure I'm wearing it! There are times it does become annoying, mostly when clothes shopping and dealing with no pockets, but otherwise it's not. It also makes exercise MUCH easier because of the temporary basal rate features. Jen Re: Introduction Hi I was recently looking at going for pump therapy but still not sure about it. Guest guest
Yes, . Loosing weight is difficult as eating less means taking less insulin and figuring out how much less can be a problem! But, I like , love the pump. They now make the pumps so that you can disconnect when taking a shower, swimming or for any other reason for a short time, so in that way it is convenient. About the only time it is cumbersome is if I do not have a pocket or wish to war a dress. I keep mine pump in a specaially made plastic case wheihc has a clip on it, so I havng it the waist band of my pants or skirts. But, since having the pump (and going thrugh extensive training at first), my A1C is usually under 6. P.s. How much in pounds is a stone? (smile) Introduction Hello. Guest guest
Hi Yeah this country is well screwed up when it comes to measurements. When refering to fuel economy we say miles per gallon but we sell fuel by the litre, whereas beer is sold by the pint. At hospital I am weighed inKg but my height is measured in feet and inches. Products are sold in metric in the stores but we travel in miles. We don't know whether we are coming or going. Anyone over a certain, lets say 25-30 all are used to imperial measures but anyone younger are taught metric even though it's not used across the board. And people wonder why the english are eccentric? smile. Sorry this nothing to do with diabetes or blindnes, just my little grey cells.Do you know or does anyone know of a weight loss diet that is good for t1 diabetics or will I have to rely on the waste of space dietician at my diabetic clinic?Cheers . . Guest guest
There was anews sequence on the TV the other night that said over a 2 year period the people who lost the most weight and kep it off ate fewer carbs. They compared the low carb to the Mediterrain diet and low fat diet. Of course, if you do that, you will have to adjust your insulin dosage accordingly. Have you figured howmany units of insulin you need to cover every 15 grams of carbs? If you know that, then it is easier to count your carbvs and give the correct units of fast acting insulin.. Guest guest
The first 60 days or so on valtrex can be vey rough. You need to have her on a strong anti fungal like diflucan as ell. The valtrex can really kick up the yeast. We added Imunovir (another antiviral) and it makes my son so much happier while on valtrex. Subject: IntroductionTo: mb12 valtrex Date: Sunday, May 9, 2010, 10:02 PM Hello, Just wanted to introduce myself! My name is Summer and I have an 8 year old daughter with autism and verbal apraxia. She has some language but it is very hard to understand her because of the apraxia. Our DAN! doctor just prescribed valtrex, and we are on day 2. She tested positive for CMV, which they are speculating was the reason for her premature birth and autism. The doctor thought that an anti-viral may be effective because of the CMV virus in her body. Does anyone else have any experiences with CMV and valtrex? Any major side effects with valtrex? Any info. would be much appreciated! Thank you.
