Hi list

As we near the era of ACO's, my administration is beginning to examine what this

will look like for our hospital. Do any of you know of any existing models out

there for hospital/SNF partnerships? Are there any regulatory hurdles with

hospitals contracting with SNF's to prepare for ACO's?

I realize we know very little about what an ACO will look like or how it may

impact us at this point, but any insight is appreciated.

Thank you,

Jill Piazza, PT, DPT

Hi Jill,

The APTA Private Practice Section has two excellent webinars that are available

as a free member benefit to PPS members. Go here:

http://www.ppsapta.org/

....and click " Health Care Reform " - you will be asked for your member log-in.

For non-members, the APTA has publicly posted its comments on the Medicare

Shared Savings Program here:

http://www.apta.org/uploadedFiles/APTAorg/Advocacy/Federal/Health_Care_Reform/Co\

mments/APTAComments_MedicareSharedSavingsACOs.pdf

The APTA is advocating for all practice settings and I was pleased that the ACO

Comments addressed concerns of Private Practice PTs.

Finally, a resource that I found helpful was the DHHS/CMS 10-page primer

Improving Quality of Care for Medicare Patients: Accountable Care Organizations

at...

https://www.cms.gov/MLNProducts/downloads/ACO_Quality_Factsheet_ICN906104.pdf

Particularly pay attention to the 65 Quality Measures ACOs must meet in order to

participate in shared savings - this is where I believe the physical therapist

and the physical therapist assistant have the opportunity to shine.

I counted at least 7 of the 65 Quality Measures that are part of the PT/PTA

scope of practice that could improve quality at low cost.

I we get Direct Access the number of Quality Measures PT/PTAs could impact could

rise substantially.

If you have any questions about Medicare ACOs, please feel free to reply in this

forum or contact me directly at TimRichPT@... .

Thank you,

Tim
