Guest guest
Mr. Mourning, I appreciate your feedback. I'm sure that like most things, it's regional as far as what is and isn't covered. I'm going to do a lit search on outcome based research to see if I can counter the denial and if I find some good material, I'd be happy to share it on here. Thanks again, Curtis ________________________________ From: PTManager [mailto:PTManager ] On Behalf Of Mourning, Todd Sent: Wednesday, December 03, 2008 1:51 PM To: 'PTManager ' Subject: RE: BC/BS denials of iontophoresis Curtis, it depends where you are. We are in central IL and are mostly denied here also but there are a few BC/BS sub plans that will cover. Best to educate the pt and have them check their plan to see if it is covered prior to rendering the service. As an aside, our Medicare FI no longer pays ionto either. They claim that there is insufficient research to justify the procedure. They have not been flexible in negotiating this point. Hope that helps. Has anyone else had trouble with this? This is a very troubling change due to the effectiveness of using this modality. Any supportive research leads to argue why it should be a covered service? Guest guest
We had been covered in our area (central WI) up until about a month ago. We are now receiving denials for this modality. It is my understanding that Medicare no longer covers it in any region either.
