RE: CPT codes

Hi, May -

Medicare billing is about how much time the patient receives rehab services.

If a patient was treated by an OT for 15 minutes, it's one unit of CPT

97112. If they are seen by a PT and an OT for 15 minutes, it's *still* one

unit of CPT 97112 that the patient received.

However... if the patient received 15 minutes of CPT 97112 Neuromuscular

Re-education by one professional, and then an appointment with another

professional for another 15 minutes, and documents that these are two

separate and distinct services, then the providing organization MAY get

reimbursed for both of the appointments.

I am aware that some therapists may find it desirable to see patients

together, and " co-treat " but it doesn't get paid that way. The employer

would have to " eat " the cost of the second professional.

Hope that helps!

Subject: CPT codes

Hello!

I just want to find an answer about the use of CPT codes. Is there

going to be a problem in the billing if the physical therapy discipline

uses the same CPT code at the same time with occupational therapy

discipline? Or is it going to be okay if for instance on Nov,PT uses

97112 the same time with OT.

Thank you, in advance to all!

Happy New Year everyone!

MAY
