I have had one recently. No surgery, same type of tear. Boot, then brace and

slow recovery. I will say recovery is activity dependent…never stopped

golfing, etc. Also developed a plantar fasciitis problem along with it.

Subject: Peroneal Brevis

Has anyone had a patient with a torn peroneal brevis? MRI verified a

longitudinal tear. If so did they have surgery, brace or just rehab? I have

never seen a brevis tear (longitudinal). Have seen a longus avulsion. My patient

was told by the ortho she would have to have surgery. Any experience with this

injury?

Thanks Todd. I suspected it would be slow for her and frustrating.

I actually had this!  I was in a walking boot for 3 weeks, and all better

eventually.  That is a sample size of one, however.  Hope this helps.  You

can always get the surgery later.

Our patient did not respond initially to therapy. We suggested another opinion

for bracing. With high ankle brace for lateral support, she is doing much

better. She also has plantar fascitis. All responding better, slowly, but better

since bracing. No surgery needed.
