I am looking to hire a PT via a temp agency for three consecutive weeks to cover

for a PT on vacation. The PT from the agency does not have a MC Provider number.

Can that individual's services be billed to MC using the office's group MC

Provider number if no member of the group is onsite?

If the answer is no, how can a private practice treating MC patients utilize the

services of agency to cover vacationing PT staff?

Our understanding is that Therapists cannot work incidence to another Therapist

and must enroll for an individual number assignment.

When we have used Temp Staff we always enroll them in the Medicare program with

an effective date being their first day of employment with us. We have to hold

billing until the number is assigned but the individual can see Medicare

patients while the enrollment is being processed. The process is pretty fast now

with the PECOS system. Takes a couple of weeks if all is sent in clean. When

they leave you have to remove them from your group as well. That number is their

permanent number for future employers to reassign to their group. Our

intermediary is Trailblazer Health Enterprises.
