Guest guest
Chiros manipulating TMJ is considered dangerous and harmful to the patient in my opinion. There are 13 muscles attaching between C1 and TMJ region. I have been treating TMJ since last 15 years and soft tissue mobilization is the safest and least painful. In exterme cases of locked jaws and such would you do mild mobilzation of the actual TMJ. This area of the anatomy is very sensitive and requires caution in any quick thrusts. I would not want a chiro or anybody manipulating my TMJ! Â Hiten Dave' PT Re: Is Chiropractic in MI attempting to change their Practice Act to include TMJ Rx? I can see their clinical point.... sorry. In GA, there are/were chiros in Atlanta who treated TMJ along with massage therapists in their office. It makes sense for them to manipulate C0-3 to facilitate the bony support for the soft tissue sling apparatus of the TMJ. The question is, will they farm out the soft tissue treatment to qualified clinicians and will they attempt to mobilize the TMJ itself? I know that all they do is their version of manipulation, but I have to say it is not common that I find a chiro that will actually take the time to REALLY assess a patient let alone perform a specific, appropriate treatment. I believe MI should reconsider allowing this change.
