Guest guest
I'm trying to find an LCD on speech therapy, or at least get some guidance on billing. Can speech bill for an eval and for treatment at the same visit? Can speech bill for two different treatments at the same visit? Such as speech therapy treatment (92507) and cognitive treatment (97532). This is for an outpatient hospital based clinic. Any input is appreciated? Thanks Weideman, PT Rehab Coordinator Presbyterian Health Systems Rio Rancho, NM
Guest guest
If the speech is billed under the medicare part B system, it must be billed under a PT's NPI number with the GN modifier. You are able to bill for a speech eval and treatment on the same day, however there are certain speech treatment codes that can't be billed with some PT treatment codes on the same day. I think you can use a modifier on those as well though. We just started billing for speech therapy treatments and it has been working out great. If you any other questions, please email me. Also, I think Medicare is starting to accept enrollment applications for speech therapists. - Physical Therapy Delray Beach, FL From: PTManager [mailto:PTManager ] On Behalf Of weidemanpt Sent: Friday, December 12, 2008 12:46 PM To: PTManager Subject: Speech therapy I'm trying to find an LCD on speech therapy, or at least get some guidance on billing. Guest guest
In New Mexico, your Medicare contractor is TrailBlazer Health and they currently do not have a LCD for SLP or Dysphagia treatment. Your question is really regarding CCI edits. To answer your question, a SLP may bill both 92506 and/or 92610 (Evaluation codes) and 92507 (treatment of speech) and/or 92526 (treatment of swallowing dysfunction) on the same day and no modifier-59 is required. If billing 92507 and 97532 on the same day, you would need to append modifier-59 to 97532 on the claim form in order to ahve that code reimbursed on the same day you are billing and being reimbursed for 92507. Here is the link to the CCI edits on the CMS website. You may need to copy and paste the link in your web browser. http://www.cms.hhs.gov/NationalCorrectCodInitEd/NCCIEHOPPS/itemdetail.asp?filter\ Type=none & filterByDID=-99 & sortByDID=2 & sortOrder=ascending & itemID=CMS046226 & intNu\ mPerPage=10 Rick Gawenda, PT President Section on Health Policy & Administration APTA --- weidemanpt wrote: > I'm trying to find an LCD on speech therapy, or at > least get some > guidance on billing. > Can speech bill for an eval and for treatment at the > same visit? > Can speech bill for two different treatments at the > same visit?
