Guest guest
I think the fact that you probably have some kidney dysfunction will allow that potassium level to creep up. Plus, 2 cups of milk daily is probably pushing it. Try to get on a list where your doctor's office can call you if someone has a cancellation. Hate to say it, but most of us are just numbers, and the patient that accepts whatever the doctor says, is probably the patient that will not fair as well as the patient that really takes the bull by the horns. I gave up drinking orange juice a while back because of the heart burn. The only thing I do eat or drink that is high in it is the milk and that is two cups a day to take pills with. I don't remember if the day before the test I had anything other than the milk with potassium in it or not. don't know if that would make a difference or not. Guest guest
Melvin, I also have a problem with potassium, my kidney doctor says it is from my blood pressure med which is prinavil. I get blood work done next week and we will see. I stay away from just about the same foods plus that you do. Especially green beans, mushrooms, spinach and broccoli. They gave me a list of foods to eat little or nothing of, oh yes, sunflower seeds, peanuts and peanuts butter. What a wonderful life! He has suggested to me to try a water called Hydroclorathiazide not sure of the spelling. So September should be fun finding out about all this. Take care. and Joe RE: lab tests 8/4/08 I don't eat potatoes, bananas, or if I do it is only about once a month and never on the same day or week. Guest guest
In the end, all of us are different. More accurately, all of our bodies are different. I eat lots of nuts--walnuts and peanuts, including peanut butter--but my potassium level has always been fine. I do have CKD, and my creatine clearance is usually 1.6, although this last time it had risen slightly to 1.8. Dave Victim of a crime? Guest guest
I also take the prinavil too. Wonder how much it is actually affecting my potassium levels? Guest guest
My nephrologist feels it is more important to control blood pressure because if it is out of control you are going to have bad kidneys anyway. So, he has kept me on Prinovil so far. ESS

Guest guest
Melvin, not sure but for me according to doctor it is the best drug for me now. Again, I am not comparing one to another as no two people are alike. Like my husband Joe runs low on potassium eating and taking 2 potassium pills daily. Hopefully my blood work will be better coming up. Good luck and don't give up. and Joe RE: lab tests 8/4/08 I don't eat potatoes, bananas, or if I do it is only about once a month and never on the same day or week.
