Guest guest
Hello all, I am new to the list and have a couple of questions, or better said pleas for advice. I have a 5 yr old son. I haven't really been a big believer in the shot/autism connection in the past. Although the more research I do, the more I question whether or not I should have been more concerned about the mercury exposure. Looking back, the rash and the crying episodes my son went through after the dtp could have very well been a result of the mercury. We are at the re- vaccination point again and I guess all questions and concerns of the past with regards to vaccines have come up again. We are running titers for MMR and I have already decided no DTap. My question is in regards to some of the behaviors we have not been able to help him with and are now trying to come up with ways to start experimenting in some new directions, at least for us. My son is on a dairy free diet and that's really all we are doing biomedically/dietary. He does ABA and OT too. He is really doing well verbally and academically, the problems lie with behaviors. One of the hardest to deal with is extreme overactivity that seems to come and go throughout the day. It is really bad right now, jumping all over me,(seeming to need deep pressure), teeth grinding, some silliness, alot of self talk in a pretty loud voice, just alot of hard to control over the top activity. Could any of this be related to the possible heavy metal toxicity? Has anyone seen chelation help with these kinds of behavours? I know every child is different, I am just looking for some possible sources of help. We did have a hair anaylis done about 1 1/2 yrs ago and the big thing I remember was very low calcium/mag and very high potassium/sodium. Thanks for any ideas, Donna
Guest guest
Hi: With regards to the hyperactivity, chelation has definitely been helping with this. I can relate to what you're saying about always moving around. That described my son prior to the chelation process. He's definitely settling down more and more after each round of chelation. Guest guest
a-- can I ask how much you are using, and are you using DMSA/ALA or??? We are in round 2 with about 1/4 mg per pound of body weight, DMSA only. W (congrats on the sudden improvements!) > it. No one can believe how much he's changed in just 6 weeks. This is a sign of adrenal insufficiency, which leads to hyperactivity as adrenaline is used in place of cortisol. Things to do are avoid stress, feed him lots of licorice, and use " adrenal support " supplements or glandulars. Andy . . . .

My son had major phenol problems, and many foods caused this sort of behavior for him. http://www.autismchannel.net/dana/phenol.htm After the first 10 rounds of chelation with ALA, my son lost his phenol sensitivity, so now he can eat phenol foods without any hyper or other phenol-related problems. You can read his chelation story here, if you are interested. http://www.autismchannel.net/dana/myson.htm#chelation > very low calcium/mag and very high potassium/sodium. My son will have trouble falling asleep if I don't give him cal/mag supplement. Dana
